Notice they call this 17-year old horsenapper a "man". (Of course this is Texas, that 'splains it.) Usually 17 year old criminals are "chilrun" and therefore to be excused. Texas (thank God) don't mess with horse thieves!

Carriage company offers reward for pair

Jill Turner planned to spend Monday night on a horse-drawn carriage, taking holiday revelers on tours through Highland Park.

Instead, she was worried about her "babies" - two horses that were stolen Monday afternoon from outside her Oak Lawn apartment.

"We're sick about it," said Ms. Turner, owner of Lilly Langtry Coach, an 8-year-old horse-drawn carriage company that operates in the West End and in Highland Park during the holidays.

Ms. Turner reported the thefts to police, but officers have warned her that it's likely that only the truck and trailer will be recovered, she said.

Stolen were Jill, a 1,200-pound mare, and Chief, a 2,200-pound gelding. The horses were taken after Ms. Turner returned to her apartment in the 4000 block of Gilbert Avenue to change clothes before her planned evening tours, she said.

She was in her apartment for about 20 minutes before she learned that the horses had been stolen, along with a truck and the horse trailer they were in. The horses, which are not insured, are valued at $7,000, and the truck and trailer at $36,000, Ms. Turner said.

"We are so concerned about the horses," she said. "We can replace the truck and trailer, but we want our horses back most of all."

Jill, a 15-year-old chestnut-colored Belgian quarter horse cross, has a flaxen-colored tail and mane, and a white stripe down the middle of her face. "She was my favorite," Ms. Turner said.

Chief is a 6-year-old black Percheron draft gelding and has a short tail, a long black mane, a star in the middle of his forehead and a white marking on his nose. "He's a very sweet, mild-mannered horse," she said.

Ms. Turner said her company is offering a $7,000 reward for the recovery of the horses. Anyone with information about the horses can call Lilly Langtry Coach at 214-876-7526.

Raised Paint and Quarter horses for thirty years.I would shoot a horse thief if i cought one stealing one of my horses.Horse thieves are lower than a snakes belly in a deep wagon rut.

No, theft of fewer than 10 horses is a 'state jail felony' - just below a third degree felony. It's good for 180 days to 2 years in jail plus up to $10k in fines. If they have a prior felony conviction, the punishment is 2 to 10 years plus up to a 10k fine.

Didn't they string 'em up? And on a related note I've always wondered: If they strung up horse theives, why don't they string up car thieves? It's still a most personal type of transportation that a person has now-a-days.
