(MIAMI, FL, June 27) Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc. announced today that it has partnered with the prestigious New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) (www.njit.edu), in the pursuit of "Personalized Weapons Technology", sometimes erroneously referred to as "Smart Gun Technology", which will provide user identifiable firing controls for firearms. The NJIT has been working on this project for some time.

I'm posting this in light of the recent passage of a law in New Jersey which will require so-called "smart guns" to be sold in the state
exclusively three years after one working model is delivered to any FFL anywhere in the United States.
I'm holding out hope that the 9th circuit's clash with the 5th circuit will bring about a favorable decision regarding the individual's right to keep and bear arms, and that such nonsense as this will be tossed out as unconstitutional.
In the meantime, gun manufacturers - this time Taurus - are still selling us out, and need to hear from us. We know that we're a force; remember Smith & Wesson!
And since this is a Christmas Eve post, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas - enjoy!

This saddens me, because Taurus has been a pretty strong 2A supporter. One must wonder at the rationale.

I am very disappointed that Taurus is doing this. You would think that S&W experience would have learned them something.
I won't buy another Taurus.

Taurus is trying to deal with the devil. The "smart gun" is a trick to declare all "non smart" firearms too dangerous for us to use or own and thus justify confiscation.
My firearms are already well designed-they go boom when loaded and the trigger is pulled. I am the smart part as I know to treat them as loaded until I examine the magazine and chamber to see if it's unloaded. Also, I don't point them when loaded at anything I don't want a nasty hole in.

Sad but true.
What's worse is that NJIT has been budgeted almost 2 million dollars over the past 2-3 years, and now Taurus has its finger in the pie. They're using MY tax dollars to take away my right to defend myself.

Taurus is trying to deal with the devil. Agreed. As far as smart-gun technology...in over 30 years of shooting, mine have never gone bang unless I wanted them to. Merry Christmas.

I won't buy another Taurus. You, or anyone else who comes to the same decision, should write to them and let them know - and tell them why.
Thanks!

Just because you disagree with a law does not mean that it is unconstitutional, liberals make the mistake of believing that what they believe is right equates with what the Constitution says. New Jerseys law is a bad law but you are going to have to change it in the appropriate venue, which is the legislature, not the overreaching courts.

What I really like about the NJ law is Police are exempted from have smart weapons, always here about some officer getting shot with his own weapon.
Guess those politicians in NJ want their Jack booted thugs to still be shot with their own weapons.

Unfortunately, Taurus has made it impossible to contact them from their webpage. Do you suppose they know what this will stir up and just don't want to listen?

If a situation occures where the transferrence of my weapon to an ally results in the survival of us both...
...then the idea of a "smart gun" goes against my right to live, and NOT DIE, at the hands of my enemy.

STOP BUYING TAURAS!!!!!!

Tell ya what, the politics aside, I might be interested in such a firearm, for some safety reasons.

There probably would be a market for 'smart guns'. But that can't mean banning non-smart guns.
I might even want one myself if it is proven beyond all doubt to work. However, firearms are already tricky to keep close to 100% reliable.

A smart gun, is no gun, because it can be turned off by an EMP device out of range of the weapon.
To: dbwz
They have a symbol of the NRA on their website (buy a gun and get a one-year free membership).
Either that will change or my membership status will lapse.

One must wonder at the rationale.KA-ching! It's the money...a lot of people in Jersey are gonna want guns...and whoever comes out with the best design stands to rake in the bucks.
