Free condoms for boy scouts at Thailand jamboree (be prepared ?)

BANGKOK, Dec 24 (Reuters) - Health officials will give free condoms to boy scouts as young as 14 at the scouting movement's four-yearly world jamboree in Thailand this week.

Thailand's health ministry said it would hand out thousands of contraceptives on demand to 30,000 scouts between the ages of 14 and 18 attending the 11-day gathering in Sattahip, 170 km (106 miles) southeast of Bangkok.

Sattahip is just a short drive from the seaside town of Pattaya, which is notorious for its thousands of go-go bars, massage parlours and brothels.

"We want to promote safe sex," ministry spokesman Pipat Yingseri told Reuters. "We will offer condoms to scouts who need them, but I think most of them will already be well-prepared."

Thousands of go-go bars, massage parlours and brothels in Pattaya Beach? Wow the place must have really grown since I was last there (early 70s). No boyscouts back then, just us military types, the bargirls, the locals, and some fat sweaty German sex tourists. I'm sure the Germans will be thrilled to hear about the Boyscouts.

Disgusting, but not surprising. When one sees thousands and thousands of Americans, Germans, Japanese, Chinese, etc. coming to your country every year for sex tourism, one probably begins to paint all groups with the same brush.

Cripes!! When I went to the 1974 Jamboree, we ended up in Pennsylvania, a far cry from the outskirts of Bangkok!! Biggest thrill we had was an appearance by Bob Hope. Not a woman or girl as far as the eye could see.

Must be a whole new class of merit badges........

In case anyone doesn't know it by know, Thailand is the child-sex capital of the world. Why on earth would the Boy Scouts hold a jamboree in a place where men fly in from around the world to have sex with children?

You need to understand that this is a World Jamboree, not a National Jamboree. This is organized by the World Organization of Scouting Movements (WOSM), not the BSA. The BSA is a member of the WOSM. If you check out the WOSM site, you'll find that while they, like the BSA, require their member organization to require their members to believe in God, they take no position on sex or sexual practices, leaving that to local cultures.
