Pepsi Picks Spike Lee's Agency for Some Ads
Mon Dec 23,10:44 AM ET
PURCHASE, N.Y. (Reuters) - Pepsi-Cola North America on Monday named an advertising company founded by Spike Lee (news) as its multicultural agency of record and said the filmmaker will direct a television commercial starring singer Beyonce Knowles (news), the soft drink company's newest spokeswoman.
The agency, Spike DDB, was founded by Lee and DDB Worldwide. The pact may also include development of radio, print and Internet creative spots, Pepsi-Cola said.
The commercial directed by Lee is scheduled to air sometime in early 2003, said Pepsi-Cola, a unit of food and beverage company PepsiCo Inc.
Pepsi last week said it signed a pact with Knowles, a member of the R&B group Destiny's Child, for a national ad campaign and possible concert tour sponsorship. Pepsi's endorsement contract with pop singer Britney Spears (news) expires at the end of 2002.
Purchase, New York-based Pepsi-Cola said BBDO New York, its agency of record, still handles general market advertising, while Dallas-based Dieste Harmel & Partners is responsible for its Latino advertising.
DDB Worldwide and BBDO are each part of Omnicom Group Inc.

>>>No, unlike Spike Lee, Trent Lott never made movies with antisemitic characters and slurs.<<<
Spike helped incite the Rodney riots of Los Angeles in 1992, with his "fight the power" motif and his very own rioting in "Do the Right Thing". It's only fitting that his fans would now be led down yet another dead end path...near addiction to sugar water.

First Micheal Jackson and now Spike Lee. I like the taste of Pepsi better than coke, but I won't buy it again.
Oh well. There's always beer!
