Was up with these leftist Methodists? (no offense to the cool Methodists though)

Was up with these Methodists? Can anyone tell me? I mean there must be some good people - but they seem very leftward. In doing my research on the NCC they seem to be directing a lot of that wacky organization. Looking at the Methodist websites they seem too liberal in their religious views - hugging Fidel Castro (I have the picture) guitar strumming, Native American dances next to the altar, and even a guy dressed as a clown giving Holy communion.

In the bad 1970s my parents were looking for something different in relation to religion and spirituality. My dad's business partner used to invite us all the time to his Methodist Church for services, pot lucks, choir singing concerts - stuff like that - My dad was even thinking of having us join the Methodist church - untill these two fat lesbians came into the congregation - they where these Methodist bigwigs I think and one of the first things they did was introduce these sensitivity training sessions about Cuba, the "good" the Revolution had done (free meds, school, shoes on kids, propaganda like that), how great Fidel Castro was, and how the USA should open up to Cuba. Well, being Cuban, and extremely anti communist, my father did an about face and we never went back there. It's a shame - I had a large crush on the ministers pretty daughter. Oh well...

I grew up in the Methodist church. It's changed. Alot. It's gone "One World Religion" on us, just as the scriptures predicted would happen. The only churches growing and growing dramatically are the Charismatic churches...independents. They adhere to the Bible and the firm foundation that most main stream churches have abandoned long ago. Try one. :0)

If you want conservative and biblical, check to see if there are any Orthodox Presbyterian or Presbyterian Church in America congregations nearby. (NOT Presbyterian Church USA, though. They are extremely liberal, as is the mainline Lutheran church, the ELCA.) The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is also conservative. I really don't know of any conservative Methodist groups. I too, grew up n the Methodist Church. That was before it was the United Methodist Church. (Believe that happened in the early 60s.)

I joined the Air Force and left home around 1955 and had contacts with the Methodist Church from time to time and I noticed that many things had changed. For one thing, their church literature was strange to me. Seemed that they had taken more of a socialist stance than I previously noticed. That didn't bother me much though, as I was pretty much apolitical at the time.

As time went on though, I began to be more politically astute and found many of their attitudes and teachings offensive. One thing that bothered me is that they began to align themselves with the World Council of Churches. As I began to grow politically I perceived that the WCC was (is) basically a Communist organization.

I'm not implying that Methodists are Communists any more than I would imply that people who embrace the Democratic party are Communists. But, if you examine the hierarchy of these organizations you'll see the connection.

I'm sure that by now I've angered a number of people and will let it go at that. I'll end this by saying that I couldn't ever consider myself a part of either of these organizations and, if I did, I would be making an unnatural departure from the principles I've developed and embraced over the years.

What makes my blood boil is:

The Methodist Church has taken the official position that a woman's duty is to submit to rape instead of defending herself. It as if the Methodist Church expects women to hug and kiss and thank the criminal for murdering, raping or robbing her.

My opinion is the Methodist Church heirarchy must be both really stupid and really arrogant to expect women to believe that kind of horse manure.

PCA is cool, and I'm sure there are few spinoffs from some of the other mainline denominations that are trying to avoid liberalism. Overall though, the Church in America (and around the world) has become just another breeding ground for leftism/world communism. Anywhere people gather and submit themselves to teaching, the left has infiltrated and brainwashed. Too many Christians tolerate this s**t and sit happily in the pews, planning the next church picnic and enjoying their social status, sending their money to a faceless Synod, who uses the money to prop up leftist causes worldwide.

I too grew up in the Methodist church and was married there also. However, I never plan to go back. I haven't changed that much but they have.

I was a Methodist once. The last service I attended was at the Methodist Church near Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Among other clues, the church had been declared a Nuclear Free Zone. I wrote the church management a letter.

There is an evangelical renewal movement in the Methodist Church called Good News. There is a battle going on among the rank and file for the heart and soul of the denomination, especially among the laity. Because of it's leftward tilt the Methodist church is hemoragging members and monies. The average age of a Methodist church member is also growing older. All people of faith, who love the church of Jesus Christ should pray that this and other historic Protestant movements can be pulled back from the brink of insanity and rescued from the devil's clutches. Barring an answer to that prayer, one of the few denominations to carry the banner John Wesley, one of histories greatest churchmen, is the Free Methodist church.

Their politics or World view is based on their view of the Bible. These People are Modernists, they view the Bible as a man-made document, and God as a philosophical (sp?) abstraction.

The problem began in the late 19th century and continues to this day. Individuals were ordained who doubted one or two of the basic tenants of the Bible, i.e. Noah's global flood, virgin birth, etc. They in turn lowered the standard for the next generation of ministers. Eventually they gained control of the seminaries, where they destroyed the faith of those entering the ministry.

This led to many,many denomination splits when traditional/conservative Christians realized they lost control over their denomination. The good news with the Methodists is that the Conservatives managed to keep control over one of their seminaries. So they are still producing a few equipped Believing Ministers.

I would recommend the book The Battle for the Bible by Harold Lindsell. Also Authority: The Critical Issue for Southern Baptists by James Draper. There are many other books out there I'm sure, these two came to mind.

Be Grateful that you live in America. This "Modernism" or anti-supernatural bias against the Bible began there a century earlier. There with the State-support "official" Churches, the Christian's were NOT as successful in establishing new denominations. Which is why Europe is Post-Christian.

Same thing in the Presbyterian (PCUSA) church. My church is very conservative, and there will be NO ordaining of homosexuals if there is anything we can do about it.

Also, I am in officer training, and one thing we are taught is that when anti-spiritual, anti-God forces try to get a foothold, the option to cut-and-run is not an option. You are obliged to stay around and fight for what is Godly. Maybe we can take back our mainstream churches - they really are wonderful institutions of, and for, God.

There is a similiar rather unknown rule in the Roman Catholic church. You are not permitted to leave your parish church and go to another parish because you don't like what is going on in your own church. You must go to your own parish, period. The goal is to make you make a stand and fight to correct the problem. Hardly anyone knows this rule anymore. Heck, parish boundaries are hardly known today.

I, too, was born and raised a Methodist. I remember when we became "United Methodists" in 1967 (we merged with the Evangelical United Bretheren, or something like that; I was 17). The UMC has become a mini-leftist church in all its ways!

For years, I pleaded to God to direct me to another denomination. Without going into details here, I'm still a United Methodist because I KNOW this is where He wants me.

The good news for you, and all other frustrated United Methodists, is that there are several renewal groups now. Besides the one listed above, you can also go to www.confessingumc.org .

With God's help, there is hope for the UMC.
