The "celebrate" aspect has to do with the link between being a "separate" group that deserves, in fact demands, coddling, special standards for behavior and accomplishment, and forgiveness for any and all shortcomings, depravity, and degeneracy.

But Kwanzaa is even weirder than that. How will historians a thousand years from now look at a holiday that is based on a series of self-evident ridiculous presumptions:

(1) There is one African culture and all African-Americans embrace it.

(2) Socialism/Communism is supported by all AfricanAmericans now and will be forever.

(3) A Holiday created in the United States by a graduate student in 1969 is a more appropriate celebration of the Winter Solstice than other Holidays, hundreds of years old, celebrated by people throughout the world.

(4) Black Americans in the United States have the right (or is it obligation) to brainwash actual Africans about what Holiday the Africans should be celebrating. You see, Africans, you have had it wrong for two thousand years. We will teach you what to think. (the left calls _this_ cultural colonialism. ;-) )
