This happened at the McDonalds right outside the gate here at Maxwell AFB, AL. You don't want to be outside the fence after dark. Good on this guy for defending himself.
The perp's dad still says his innocent lil son would never have done this. More to come on this story.
I retired from Maxwell in August 2001; you are correct, you DON'T want to spend any time in the neighborhoods around the base at night. BTW, this is the second time in less than two years that a military member has been targeted at a fast food drive-through window. Just before I retired (and moved back to MS), a young airman on leave from a base in Texas was shot and killed by an assailant. That attack (as I recall) took place at a fast food joint just off I-85.
