I retired from Maxwell in August 2001; you are correct, you DON'T want to spend any time in the neighborhoods around the base at night. BTW, this is the second time in less than two years that a military member has been targeted at a fast food drive-through window. Just before I retired (and moved back to MS), a young airman on leave from a base in Texas was shot and killed by an assailant. That attack (as I recall) took place at a fast food joint just off I-85.

Semper Fi, Sgt Lowery, and here's hoping he has a speedy recovery....

You know, there is actually base houseing just outside that gate on Airbase Road. I can't imagine living there--even if they paid me.

I could never figure out the whole area outside of Maxwell. The city doesn't care. The state doesn't care. It is a maximum danger zone for any military person to venture out of after dark. Thank God for the gate and the SPs who maintain security. Seems like it needs a extreme neighborhood watch team...loaded down with shotguns. Even the locals who are good people...are totally afraid of the area after dark. This is getting as bad as LA.
