'We have got well over 20 and are approaching 26,' says one Lott supporter.

Twenty Six votes ( out of 51 total GOP members) are required for Lott to keep his job.

In that case, let's pick the one who hasn't helped the bad guys smear conservatives as racists, then pledged to support the leftist agenda in hopes of saving his job.

I pick your post.

Bumpity.

Taz, if you're holding up my Senator (McStain) as some kind of a good example to follow, you're deluded. John McCain is out for John McCain, period. He's a massive hypocrite when it comes to campaign finance reform, getting a lifetime pass by the lamestream media because he's a GOP and Bush gadfly.

I heard Rush at lunch today talking about how Clinton lashed out yesterday at Lott and brought up that it was Lott who was in charge of that fiasco impeachment hearings and subverted justice to cut a deal! I would hope all the Republican senators remember THAT when it comes to voting for a Majority Leader!

Mithc McConnell just endorsed Lott, along with Nighthorse Campbell, Mike Dewine, Arlen Spectre, Dick Shelby, Rick Santorum, (already stated) Dick Lugar, Orin Hatch, Judd Gregg, George Voinivich and Mike Ensign.

Just a partial list from National Review..

>>I wonder if Lott is now picking up these additional votes because he has secretly agreed to leave the leadership before the '04 election.<<

Probably payoffs, bribes, selling out conservatives, backstabbing.

You know, Lott's proven M.O.

You forgot the mantra of the Lottites. We have to keep Trent "affirmative action groveler" Lott because this is the "wrong time" to remove him. It is called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Have you considered that they are finally circling the wagons so this thing will go away, and the show of solidairity if for that reason alone? It's best to do any fighting in private, so until we know for sure, any talk now could be just disinformation of manouvering.

And giving Lott a chance to negotiate an exit.Best to have him go, if go he shall, on decent terms.

"I've got a good idea. Let's abolish the Senate. Name me a good Senator, just one. Drunks, lily-livered cowards, hound dogs, fakes, phonies."

Now there's a grand idea!

I can't believe we have such mindless numbnuts on this forum!

Nickels could always turn the tables and insist that if there isn't a caucus, that he will turn independent. Let's see how the Lottsters would answer that, especially since they all seem so content to let Lott play the "I'm gonna quit the Senate" card. Two can play at that game.

The fact that the party is going through all this is clear evidence that Lott is not fit to lead. His insistence on maintaining the Leadership post is a sure sign that his interests lie with helping himself rather than acheiving any conservative agenda.

Something else to consider: these senators must know the polling data. I wonder if Rush knew more than he was telling today when he said this thing is blowing up in the RATs' face.

Yeah. Right. Lott is bound and determined to sell out and do whatever he can, screw Republicans and conservatives, anything to stay in power.

Every day that Dufus Lott stays as Majority Leader (rather than doing the right thing for his party, his President, and his country), my dislike, now turing into hatred, of him grows.

The left is now calling Rush Limbaugh a racist from remarks he made today on his show. Its all over the net, I was able to get one thread pulled from a site already. Folks the rats must be crushed and stomped out of America.

I didn't hear all of Rush, but I don't remember hearing him say anything that could be twisted into being called racist.

How is it advantageous to have Lott leave on his own terms? If he is to go, it should be because he was thrown out by an outraged and offended party. To allow him to stay and go out gracefully does not demonstrate that the Republican Party does not accept racism and segregation. So it fails to achieve the only purpose behind removing Lott in the first place.

Preserving Lott's so-called leadership position confirms all of the horrible things the Democrats say about Republicans. To our great credit as a nation, racism and segregation are unacceptable to the vast majority of Americans. So how can it serve the interest of the party to fail to repudiate Lott?

I guess if the GOP was dumb enough to support him since 96 it is too much to expect them to suddenly get smart
All those years of Go a long to Get along Dole as minority leader made the GOP unable to act as the Majority when the time came

If it wasn't for the hatred of Clinton the GOP would still be in the minority because it sure isn't because of their political acumen that they are in the majority

A lot of people, including me, think accusations of "racism and segregation" against Lott are over the top, especially considering the inoffensive nature of what he actually said.

Lott has always been a worthless tool. However, his latest ass-kiss-a-thon has so seriously compromised him, that the thought of having him continue as Senate Majority Leader is utterly repugnant.
