Skeptical Republicans say the $34.8 billion figure is inflated to justify tax hikes.
Gov. Gray Davis pegged California's budget shortfall at $34.8 billion Wednesday, a figure that surpasses the annual revenues of Safeway, the yearly value of the state's farm commodities and the entire budgets of every state but New York.

But the Dems do want to kill the economy. At least in California they're honest enough to say they believe in tax increases.

"The problem is so big that we don't have a lot of time for hand-wringing," Davis said. "We have to face this problem head-on."
Hah! Impossible. To do that, you have to have a head, preferably with a few brains in it.

In their latest attempt to follow the old maxim "When handed a lemon, make lemonade", the Democrats now seem to be exaggerating the size of the deficit to scare and bully Republicans into accepting whatever tax increases they choose to implement. If the Republicans refuse to go along, they will then take the blame when mass dismissals of elderly residents from state-subsidized housing hit the TV screens.
The old Clinton War Room style has not passed away, it just moved to the California Legislature.

What kind of smell does a rotting.. urrr rotten political party make anyway? Could it be.. manure?
Stand Strong and Tall, Freshmen and All Republicans or we'll take your wheels with the XM radio and heated and air conditioned seats away from you and make you ride in the back of the bus with the produce and poultry.
The aroma of manure sure hangs heavy in the halls of the Sacramento legislature... They spent their damn way into this mess.. and now they want to taX their way out of it. Go Figure!
They have no shame and will not admit that they screwed up, BigTime! and they want the taXpayers to bail them out.

Solution is simple: Raise Barbara Streisand's Taxes as well as all the Hollywood liberals. Let them live firsthand this communist dream they so whole heartedly push down our throats.
Just think of their bliss when welomed into the utopian Nirvana of pushing a stolen shopping cart full of cans down Hollywood boulevard.

CA's next big (growing) problem is the make-up of the taxpayers. While we have more total people, the ratio of low wage earners to high wage earners is exploding. I don't have to tell you who'll be paying this bill.

"I don't have to tell you who'll be paying this bill." Not me. I've put my place up for sale (prices are at an all-time high, go figure!) and am out of here BEFORE June 30th 2003, so I won't be paying ANY more CA state taxes, which means the deficit is going even higher Dim-bulb Davis!

When you realize the train wreck that California is headed for, do you really feel so bad about Bill Simon losing that election?
This fiscal disaster was seen for the last couple of years. In my view, it is inevitable. If you ageee with that, who would you rather see as being the governor in power when the train completely derails? The party of the guy at the top always gets the blame!

Not having to pay for California's political idiocy feels good on a daily basis. It's a very pretty state, but there are other states that are pretty also and which are not nearly so screwed up (Virginia being one).

No CO². (Except from libs.) Plus plenty of CO from the big, fancy cars the legislators give themselves and their government-employee collegues as part of their bloated, self-serving compensation packages.

From
Senate, Assembly get deals on wheels
First-time Assemblywoman Lois Wolk, D-Davis, requested a $37,851 Lincoln LS, a car she said she picked because her predecessor used one. "It worked well for her, so it should work well for me," she said.
She's comes to the Assembly after a distinguished career of "public service" in Yolo County as a County Supervisor. Why yur getting ripped off everyday by demRats.

The state should sell back to private individuals all the land they've confiscated in the last 10 years in the name of "environmentalism". That will put a lot of money in the bank in a hurry.
The state cannot afford to keep up the properties it now owns, and many historical properties on the central coast are starting to decay and fall into ruin.
To: hedgetrimmer
This is what happens when illegals use government services but don't pay for them with taxes but rather send their surplus income abroad.
This is also what happens when democrats pad the payrolls.
This is also what happens when millions of conservatives leave the state with their money.

Its also what happens when the State raids the Transportation fund and puts all the money in the General fund. Do you know why our roads and infrastructure are in such terrible repair? Transporation will soon grind to a halt because of the poor conditions of the roads. In our lifetime we will never pay enough taxes to bring the highways and roads back to good condition.
Commerce is hated in California. If you do have a business you soon will not be able to transport your goods. And we know how the current administration feels about farmers. They are very close to killing off agriculture in California. Comepletely!

Come on over to Texas!!!! Inexpensive housing,Republicans everywhere, it a good life.
