Speakeasies, anyone....

"Exceptions include allowing smoking in portions of outdoor cafes, rooftop restaurants and some private clubs without employees."
Someone please explain how private clubs can operate WITHOUT employees. I don't suppose we measly morons are capable of deciding whether or not we'd like to work in a club where smoking occurs.... Sheesh, what would we do without the almighty government goobers?

NEW YORK (AP) The City Council on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a ban on workplace smoking, including a prohibition on lighting up in almost all bars and restaurants in New York City.
The 42-7 vote with two abstentions came after spirited opposition from smokers and bar owners, who said tightening the city's existing smoking law would diminish their rights, hurt tourism and cut into the business of bars and nightclubs.
But Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the majority of the council maintained that the city's priority is to protect people, including bartenders and waitresses, from secondhand smoke.
''Ultimately, this bill is about protecting the health of employees in the city of New York,'' said City Council Speaker Gifford Miller. ''People shouldn't have to choose between their health and their jobs.''
The bill would be among the strictest in the nation.
While the legislation will prohibit smoking in almost all workplaces, there are several exceptions, including portions of outdoor cafes; bars that build enclosed, specially ventilated smoking rooms where employees would not enter; private clubs such as American Legion halls; nursing homes and other residential facilities that have smoking rooms; and existing cigar bars.
The bill, which Bloomberg is expected to sign within two weeks, would go into effect in March or April.

Being a billionaire Mayor Bloomberg could care less about the "little people" be they small business owners or patrons. I keep wondering whether the good mayor is a closet smoker, having a stash of Cuban cigars at his home in Bermuda (plus whatever other homes he has, whever they are.)

He just returned from Turkey, and the newspeople said the Turks were sitting all around him, smoking. You think he minded? Hell no! He just wants to control the New Yorkers.

The good news is that public urination and defectaion are now OK, as well as aggressive begging, buggery and all felonies, including murder.
Bloomberg is a dick, and all New Yorkers are his SUBJECTS, not citizens.

It seems society's goal now is to keep any of us from ever dying. This is obviously more important than the liberty, personal choices and free will that we'd all like to exercise during our actual lives.
Perhaps the next logical step is to just quarantine each of us in sealed beds -- germ-less, smoke-less, fat-less, alcohol-less containers where we're all protected from reality. They could strap each of us in with the almighty seat belt, and feed us food (genetically unmodified) and water (no arsenic) through little tubes. None of us will be free anymore, of course, but by God, society will have accomplished that far more worthy mission: keeping us from death.
What a life!
