The Democrat Plan to regain control of the US Senate in January.

Well, they are doing it again. Thats right. Pulling the rug out from the Republicans yet again. The victories of the November 2002 elections are but a faded dim memory, and yet the control of the US Senate, once thought and assumed to be in Republican control, may just be a fading dream.
Like the Senate was in 2000, with a balance of power organized by Senator Lott, under the assumption that the Democrats would abide by the agreement, we find ourselves in yet another like situation. To refresh ones memory, it should be remembered that the Senate in 2002 was evenly divided between the Democrats and the Republicans. Lott, the Senate majority leader, felt that a power sharing agreement needed to be composed to "share" power with the Democrats. He believed, that the power composition would stay evenly divided, and that any dead lock would be determined by the VP A Republican.
What he, and the rest of the Republicans, did not know nor expect was that the Democrats began in earnest to recruit Republican Senators to turn and switch control to the Democrats. They were very active in this regard, and they, as well now know, promised the world to "Jumping" Jim Jeffords. Who, as I should remind everyone, left the Republican Party and became an independent. Thus giving power to the Democrats.
The Democrats then used that power to effectively stall each and every presidential initiative presented to Congress. They rendered George Bush sterile. To this day, many important bills and judicial confirmations have been stalled due to this action.
The Plan for January.
The Democrats have taken an innocuous comment made by Senator Lott, and are using it like a blunt mallet. Pounding and pounding away. Attacking and attacking like a rabid dog at Lott. Why? It is more than mere "Borking", they are approaching this with a ferocity that has been unequaled. Indeed, not even Carville would be capable of such sustained slander, vitriol and vociferous attacks. They have claimed every crime under the sun, and few not even in existence to unseat Lott.
Why?
If, the Democrats manage to "win" the fight with Senator Lott, and thus manage to have him step down from the Republican Leadership, they will have created a situation where as their control of the Senate is GUARANTEED.
Senator Lott has made it known, that if he were to step down from the Senate Leadership position that he would leave the Senate. This is public knowledge. This would then force the current Governor of Mississippi; a democrat, to replace the Senator. He has also made it public that he would choose a Democrat
and a very liberal one at that.
Thus, this action would crate a situation in which the Senate would be a 50% 50% mix of Republicans and Democrats. Just like in 2000. Al the projected ties would then have to be broken by the VP.
Stupid Political pundits and Democrat Activists within the media are making the same kind of statements presented to the population prior to the 2000 Senate Jim Jeffords Switch. That it is on Principle that one must (just MUST) get rid of Lott. "Oh my Gosh hes got to go"
decry the seminar callers who have flooded the Rush Limbaugh Radio Show. They argue, that that is the "right thing to do
". The Democrat Activists are quite busy.
Why?
Because there are a number of RINOs just ripe for jumping from the Republican party to the Independent or Democrat Party. One, who will remain nameless, but who represents a North Eastern State has been siding with the Democrats for years now and is ready to make just a switch, provided the keys to the Kingdom are provided to him.
Unofficial sources are said to believe that his (the Senators) feelers on this subject were answered in a very understanding way. "
think of me as Santa Claus
" has been the response that is supposed to have been uttered. There is no question that this is in the works.
Provided the Media pressure can be maintained through Christmas, and the Democrat activists can maintain a pro-leave Polling appearance
. Democrat strategists believe that they could possibly regain control of the US Senate in January. To facilitate this, special envoys have been sent to Mississippi to increase pressure there, via a write in campaign, and a media blitz, and promises of riches beyond any Democrat ideal of wealth have been hinted at within the halls and chambers of those "in the know". One such offer of such riches is the possibility is as a VP candidate in 2004.
Yep. The Democrats are doing it again. And, we Republicans are just stupid enough to fall for it.

In other words, the Lott resignation was a trial balloon floated by Mitch McConnell that has been disavowed by Lott himself. Thank you. It's the pits having to read a thread full of conjecture just to get to this.

Senator Lott has made it known, that if he were to step down from the Senate Leadership position that he would leave the Senate. Then Lott is a scumbag, isn't he? No better than Jeffords.

Remember, the Dems wouldnt have this opening if Lott didnt put his foot in his mouth.

We ARE better than the Democrats.
We can show how much better by dumping Lott and putting in Nickles as majority leader.

Let's Get it straight: The Republicans is the responsibility party.
The fact that Democrat defended a perjurer and have race-baiters like Jesse "hymietown" Jackson in their ranks is a reason to NOT follow their example.
Our better example would be to find better leaders when the current ones display a failure to convey our true message and fail to represent us well. Lott is, unfortunately an albatross.
Chris caldwell said: Republicans pay a huge policy price for
holding on to Lott.
Didnt we already lose Louisiana Senate race because of this?
This is all a bit 'unfair' to Trent Lott, who has done some spineless things and some great things. But unfair or not, we can do better.

Right. The question is leadership.
I hope the Senate sees it this way.

As I said after the Nov. 5, 2002 elections, Trent Lott would find any way possible to hand the Senate back to the Democrats. And I was sort of kidding!!
His "off the cuff" remarks at Strom Thrumond's party were on a card and you can see him looking at his notes.
Lott wins again! He's a hidden Democratic operative planted to keep the GOP out of power.
I fully believe that if Lott isn't able to hand the Senate back to Daschle, he'll hijack a plane and crash into the next Senate Republican Caucus meeting!
It would almost be worth 2 more years of gridlock in the Senate, proving to the country that Democrats can't be trusted yet again, and win more Senate seats in 2004 if it gets rid of Trent Lott.
Go ahead Lincoln Chaffee, switch after Lott resigns. And you're pitiful grab for meaningless and temporary power will push you into the same ash heap of history as the NJ Democrats and Jim Jeffords. One hundred years from now the bridges with your name on them will crumble to dust.
Thanks a LOTT, Trent - For Nothing!

What a great plan them Dems had. But wait, how did they get Lott to utter those words at Thurmond's birthday party? In order for us to go along with this grand scheme of theirs, you first have to believe they coerced Lott into being stupid enough to say the things they could then use against him. Kinda hard to believe when he's said THE SAME THINGS in the past! And it hasn't been the Dems squawking, it's been his own party and for good reason. HE'S AN IDIOT WHO SHOULD SHUT HIS BIG, FAT, STUPID MOUTH ALREADY!!
Why would anyone want him as the spokesperson for the party? Even before he took the gaspipe, he was an ineffective leader who bent over backwards to make nice with the Dems when the Senate was split 50-50. Does anyone remember his role during impeachment? How he left to House Republicans out to dry? My God, let's get rid of him!
To: hobbes1
Again, if Trent doesn't say these incredibly stupid things, what is there for Carville to make something of? You aren't the victim if you hand your enemies the loaded gun they put to your head.

2. Even if he did resign from the Senate, Mississippi must hold an election for a replacement within 90 days. The republican candidate is the overwhelming favorite, as long as he can walk and chew gum at the same time.I read where there has to be a special election only if the person dies or resigns before the next Congress. If Lott waited until the next session opens, then the Mississippi governor can appoint someone for the remainder of the term, which would be until Jan. 2007 in this case.

I've about had it with this Lott imbroglio. If he does keep his job, as far as I am concerned, He will be the first black Majority Leader in the Senate. He kowtowed to every liberal black in the country. Before someone calls me racist. Let me say this. Racists are stupid! Anybody who judges a person by the melanin in their skin is an absolute neanderthal idiot. Racism is dead, buried, gone in the republican party. We are arguing about stupid idiotic things on a potentially racist black entertainment network. Liberals are the only true racists. They don't believe that americans of african descent can accomplish, acheive, or do anything without their plantation mentality. It's time to grow up anyone with an iq above room temperatures knows Martin Luther King was a great man that helped us all grow up. Get over it America. If you can prove to me Lott is a true racists do it! I don't think you can. He is a repentant big mouth who need to get on with his life.

RE # 24:
Absolutely correct! The correct reposnse from day one would have been to attack, recall and expose and quote repeatedly the statements you mention (plus Hitlery's f****** j** b*****!) and not apologize! Sheesh! Turn the tables on the fanatics themselves! Imagine this, the fanatical Left, foaming at the mouth succeeds in painting a somnambulistic, mellow wuss as a fanatic. And we let'em!
To: ModelBreaker
Either he is a rascist. Or he is very, very stupid. Reminds me of that line by DeNiro in "Casino" about the slots manager:
"If he knew about it, he's gone. If he didn't know, then he's too stupid to stay. Either way, he's gone."
With all due respect to Vannrox, I believe your analysis is correct. Lott may be a dolt but he's proven himself unable to control his tongue. All that talk about him resigning his Senate seat is just that. Talk.
To: Rummyfan
I agree.
I'm tired of the "oh, let's not play the Dems hand and attack Lott for his silly statement", or, "geez, the Dems say worse" excuses.
You have computers, folks, do the searches. Lott has been sticking this particular foot in his mouth for DECADES!!!!
He looked like a puppet on BET: "Sen. Lott, if the black people asked you to cut your penis off, would you on BET"? "I sure would", replies Lott!!!
Add Lott's decades of silly racial remarks to his continuing ability to take it up the a** by Dems, his never ending support of process over substance, his total hatred of any legislation that is conservative that he can't water down, and you have the biggest boob in political history.
I couldn't care less who Mississippi sends to the Senate, but I care the utmost who is the Senate Majority Leader when my party is in control. My vote is my Senator, Bill Frist. No Democrat would dare attack him, he's a heart surgeon and the Dimbulbs need him around when they get all hot and bothered on the Senate floor. :-)
To: Geist Krieger
In South Dakota and Louisiana they stole the election and thus two Senate seats by voter fraud and other corruption. In the Senate itself they gain back control by hypocritically destroying a Senator.I'll give you South Dakota, but's difficult to steal an election by 40,000 votes as in Louisiana. If the Dems knew the black vote wasn't going to the polls and cranked up the machine, that's the GOP's problem for not getting more of their supporters to the polls.
To: Bloody Sam Roberts
It may not be Lott's choice to resign his seat. The next step in the process will be a call for censure and there is no way republicans can keep it from coming to a vote. Lott would have no choice but to resign given the a high probability that a censure vote would go against him Democrats have let republicans do the dirty work in regard to the Majority Leader question, they will pick up the ball from this point on. They have all the "evidence" they need to convict Lott of racism wrapped up in a nice little package and given to them by republicans as a Christmas present.
To: commish
Scenario 1 - Lott Leaves, in 90 Days Miss has Election and brings in a REAL Conservative Senator -- Doesn't really matter what Chafee does - if 50/50 there will be no sharing and Cheney will have the deciding vote - Conservative judges get confirmed, Bush agenda gets pushed forward, America prospers and the Dems are seen as the Race-baiting chest thumpers they are.In all of your scenarios, you fail to point out it takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster. The Dems can stop judicial nominees forever, especially any from the South just by playing the race card!
You can forget Judge Pickering being re-nominated now. Thanks Lott, you moron!
To: kylaka
Splain that new math again pleas.... are you not gonna let the independents vote?...... If not why not.... If they vote then who are you saying they'll vote with? Remember Jeffords became an Independent in May 2001 but caucused with the Democrats....
