Translation from hebrew:
The website Ebay is offering a Israeli passport for whoever pays the most. The highest bid is $51.
The buyer who bid the most on the passport is a resident of Columbia, who signed up on the site today, as it looks just to take part in this auction of the passport.
The passport belongs to an Israeli women from Hadera, Sharon Degel, and it is being sold by an annonymous from Lima, the capital of Peru. She says that the passport was stolen from her a half a year ago while she was visiting in Peru. 2 days before the flight, she was robbed in Lima, stealing her passport and plane tickets. She went to the Israeli Embassy in Peru and a new passport was issued to her. Today, when she found out her passport was being sold on the public auction site, she called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the police. At the Ministry of Foreign affairs no one has been put in charge, and the police they said that the issue will be given to the right division. "Until the right division takes care of the issue, my passport will be sold and someone will start to travel the world with my passport," she said this evening.
An Israeli passport is considered a "neccessity" among terrorist activists and organizations that could, after a few easy changes, to use it to committ terrorist attacks.
There is no doubt that a women terrorist with Israeli looks could get on a plane easier using this passport (after the picture was changed). In the same way a women terrorist could use it to get by IDF checkpoints between the green line and Israel.
Nonetheless we are talking about a real Israeli passport and not a fake, which changes could be made by skilled people easily.
The Ministry of the Interior has stated in response that this is in the criminal bracket of activity, that needs to be given to the Israeli Police for it to be taken care of. The Police office has stated that the issue is being investigated.

Ebay should remove this item, I'm going to email the webmaster. Anyone buying a passport online is up to no good.

Collecting old and cancelled passports is a legitimate hobby. I know someone who has several from the Nazi era. But this thing is clearly "hot" and hasn't been cancelled. It would be easy for some terrorist to modify this thing for future use.

eBay permits this auction to stand and stops phoney organ sales, unlicensed sale of Microsoft software (even sealed store bought packages), and auctions with even mild profanity (in track listings for albums)?
Under 2 hours to go....

I recently renewed my U.S. passport. I noticed that they have started printing the photo directly onto the passport itself instead of just laminating it on. Most countries still laminate. Also the degree to which they stamp over the photo varies from country to country. The Israeli one is only stamped around the edges. The Hong Kong one with the baby does not have any stamp at all!! It is also the only other passport which has a bid on it.
