Doug, I am very encouraged by your post. You've been using your noodle and maybe some other folks will start using theirs as well.

POINT ONE: You don't have to like everybody on the Republican team. It is a team and it will win or lose as a team. You don't bench your most important player just because he's the world's biggest jerk.

POINT TWO: This is a fight where folks on the right are emotionally worked up and folks on the left are cool and collected and in full manipulation mode. Who benefits from this imbalance of emotion and political judgement?

POINT THREE: Lott's boss is the man who sits in the Oval Office. That man has very good judgement when it comes to picking people to do his bidding. If he thinks Lott can deliver for him that's good enough for me. Anybody here want to match their personnel management skills with GW? If so maybe they should run for President.

OK, so get mad, and then cool the f**k off and start fighting with your head and not your gut. If you don't use your heads then somebody who knows how to provoke your gut reaction will own you in a fight!

Don't worry Lott supporters, you have nothing to fear. The good 'ol boy network in Washington has already closed ranks around Lott and he will stay, with or without blackmail. The GOP agenda will be stalled in the Senate as usual, despite the majority, because the majority leader has to prove he's a "fair" guy.

But hey, we didn't give those Dems a victory, right?

I agree with most points however regarding benching your most important player misses the point, imho. Lott has been and is completely ineffective. He presided over our 5 seat loss in the Senate. Right after this election when Bush was putting out the word "Don't Gloat", smart old Trent started ranting about PBA and had to be slapped down again by the WH. If I where a coach, I would definately bench my weakest link, regardless if he were the captain.

Trent Lott is hardly the Michael Jordan or Bret Favre of the Republican Party. Whatever political capital Lott has accrued over the years has virtually vanished overnight. He's no longer an asset. He's damaged goods....
