Md. Man Suffers Baffling String Of Bad Luck (And you thought you had a bad day!)

ELKTON, Md. -- A Maryland man is hoping a new puppy can change his dismal streak of bad luck this holiday season.

James Dawkins of Elkton was on his way to visit his hospitalized mother when he stopped to walk his dog. The dog fell through ice on a pond and died, despite Dawkins' rescue efforts.

He got home to find police there. Someone had broken into his home and stolen his gun collection.

Then he discovered that he'd lost $150 in cash while trying to rescue his dog. It was all his money for Christmas presents.

Dawkins decided to try to change his fortune by getting a puppy from the pound. He's named it "Precious."

Reminds me of that song they used to sing on "Hee Haw" (a program I was forced to watch every Saturday night I spent with the grandparents):

GLOOM, DESPAIR and agony on me!
DEEP, DARK DEPRESSION, excessive misery!
IF IT WEREN'T for BAD luck, I'd have no luck at all!
GLOOOOOOM, DESPAAAAAIR and agony on meeeeee!

You have to feel sorry for the guy, but I wouldn't recommend standing too close. Asteroids.

What did I say about Hee Haw besides being forced to watch it? I recited that song from memory. I remember that song all these years later.

Of course Mr. Dawkins had a string of bad luck. It's all because this guy used all the good luck up:

Still, you have to wonder about a man who has a gun collection worth stealing AND a dog named "Precious". That's so incongruous!

SAAAAAAAAAAAA-LUTE! to you, too!

At least I didn't watch the show for the chicks. I happened to like the bloodhound.

Lucky you! I was forced to watch "wonerful, wonerful" Lawrence Welk. I can still hear the bubble machine.

For some reason this story reminded me of Murphy's Laws of combat.

Not so lucky! Didn't Lawrence Welk come on right before or after Hee Haw? I was forced to watch that, too! Granddaddy liked the lady who sang in Spanish.

Why? I'm a chick! There certainly weren't any men on that show worth looking at.

Anyone see the (new) Twilight Zone this week?

There is a new TZ???? I watched it in the mid-50s when it was still a one hour show. Then it was downsized to 1/2 hour. Rod Serling was a pretty slick/sick creative puppy. I was a TZ addict. Is the new show as clever. The best episode was when a kid walked into his closet and got stuck in the 6th dimension. Serling had a "thing" with time in that there was another piece where a small town person dropped his watch and time stopped. Something like that, remember this was about 40 years ago. I'm sure I'll get freeped with more accuracies. Cheers.

What channel/what time? I'm on the left coast in Irvine right now.
