Lott, 61 announced [during the speech] that he was in talks with Black Entertainment Television to deliever and hour long speech next week to talk about 'his hopes and dreams for people' regardless of their race.
Lott, who was greeted with hearty cheers from supporters at the start of the news conference, vowed not to step down from his leadership post, rejecting the suggestion by some that he is bigoted against minorities.

Robert Byrd was the democrat leader from 1979 to 1987.
You still dont get it do you. Segregation was government policy enforced by state laws and state power. People are free to watch or not watch BET. Whites appear on BET and they advertise their. Do you have the same disagreement with the PAX channel (Christian) or EWTN (Catholic) or whatever that women's channel is called. This is market segmentation. These are market niches being addressed by entrepreneurs. Not the same as government restricted drinking fountains. Where were you in the 50's? Probably not even a glint in your parents eyes.
I thought integrity involved apologizing for one's words?
You want Lott to quit because you hate him and don't like his leadership. It's personal with you.
Lott is apologizing, and apologizing, and apologizing. And the left is trying to railroad him, along with some well-meaning but misguided conservatives.
Lott can quit on his own or hold another vote.
But, to me, integrity means not allowing your opponents to label you something you're not. Lott is not going to allow them to label him a racist, and that's a good thing.
Not quite.
The GOP needs to understand the concept of letting sleeping dogs lie.
Every black voter that, while not inclined to vote FOR the GOP, is not inclined to cast an explicitly anti-GOP vote, is one more vote that we do not have to overcome to win. If, all other things being equal, Democrat A gets 75,000 votes, then all we need to get is 75,001.
Suppose in this example that there is a pool of 300,000 registered voters, and that the registration breaks out 60/40 in favor of the Dems, and the Dems get another 25,000 votes because of Vacant Lott. The Democrats now have 100,000 votes; the GOP now needs 100,001 to win.
For the Dems, this is a 33% increase in turnout, representing 14% of their remaining vote pool. For the GOP to win, they must get another 25,000 votes. That represents a 33% increase in turnout...
...but it also represents 70% of the remaining pool of GOP votes, and GOP turnout will be depressed by Lott being...well, Lott.
This will undoubtedly be the longest hour of Trent Lott's life.
By the 2nd minute Lott's eyes will be shifting deperately in search of the nearest exit.
By the 5th minute he'll be pleading on his knees for mercy, forgiveness and pleading for an autograph of Jesse Jackson.
Rest assured by minute 60, Lott will have promised foot rubs or worse to Maxine Waters, and Sheila Jackson Lee when he visits Congress.
Actually,no.
That's all you got out of my post?
You've got your back up, for some reason. We're just talking here. This is not a contest, nobody "wins," and very few of us take this stuff seriously.
I'm having fun; I can't imagine why you're not.
Yes. And he's now accepted his latest apology.
Will you?
Frist didnt screw up your state, your idiot farmers did. What is with the huge percentage of Republicans voting for Johnson because that would keep Dascle Majority leader and keep the pork coming your way. How exactly is this Frist fault when you lose by less than 500 votes. BTW, did I mention that 20,000 dumb Libertarians voted for a candidate that pulled out of the race and thrown his support to the REpublicans. Yeah, Frist is the problem. No its all those Swedish socialists in jeans that are the problem.
You don't know me from Adam, buddy, so don't presume to tell me that I hate Lott.
What's personal about this is Lott's statement a week ago Thursday - you bet that's personal - it insulted blacks, it insulted my Party, it insulted my President, it insulted my National Security Advisor, it insulted my Secretary of State, & it insulted potential black Republicans.
If that isn't something to get personal about, I don't know what is. Beliefs are personal - or at least they should be. When they're not, they become merely position pieces blowhards use to impress others.
Nickles could have challenged Lott, but said he would prefer the Senate Budget Committee Chairmanship.
Nobody challenged Hussein, under the point of a gun.
How is that like the election of a Senate Majority Leader?
