"Just to answer further questions"
Oh, Lord...keep him away from any mike, isn't this how it all started?
His only hope is that Chuck Schumer will see the mike, and in a Pavlovian response lunge for it creating an acoustic barrier between Lott and the mike.

Letting them win this one will be the next and final step. Oh I guarantee you the Democrats don't want to "win this one". They want with all their hearts for Trent Lott to remain one of the most powerful and visible men in the Republican Party. They're salivating at the prospect of the campaign ads they'll run in 2004. Why do you think Daschle let him off the hook so easily?
Trent Lott is a goddam idiot and like most politicians, he's way too selfish to put his party and country ahead of his own rancid self interest.

Lot should stick it to the Dems on the way out by proposing a change to Senate Rules that no Klansman or Former Klansman (aka Robert Byrd) can Serve as a Committee Chair or Ranking Member. Let's see how the Hypocrite Rats try to weasel out of that vote to punish one of their racist collegues.

Lott is going to reveal/discuss the new surgical procedures used in getting a pair of size 10 cowboy boots removed from his butt....... Maybe he needs one of these:

"you don't get it at all!" Don't I? This is about an insidious, racist remark, not about partial birth abortion, as YOU seem to think it's about.
I suggest you tell that to Thomas Sowell, or Armstrong Williams.
Read this article, then tell me I don't get it.

Or, perhaps he will say that he was rendering an encomium to the country's longest serving Senator and that nothing more should be read into his tribute? Sure. If the left wants to keep doing this, then any praise for KKK Bird means the left supports killing blacks by hanging.
Any praise for Clinton means they agree with treason, rape, and pergery.
Any praise for Gore means they support only white body guards.
Any praise for Jessie means they think black people should spit in white peoples food.
If they're going to choose only one thing about a person, then the left wing is a crimminal organization.

could have been praising his ability to fight government spending, or his ability to work with the left, or his vision of better schools. So he is also saying that Strom would have been better than the GOP candidate Dewey? Geez, the guy can't even be loyal to his own party.

But why are we prolonging this Mike? It's a salvage operation...

Let's see how the Hypocrite Rats try to weasel out of that vote to punish one of their racist collegues. They want him to prove he's not a racist by passing eletism legislation for blacks (i.e, he's being blackmailed).
If he were to suggest that idea, that would prove to everyone how anti-racist he is. Good idea. No black voter could argue with that.

Well, Lott is about as weak as they come. He may resign his senate seat altogether. Which means a Democrat will be appointed. Which means Daschle will again be majority leader.

So he is also saying that Strom would have been better than the GOP candidate Dewey? Geez, the guy can't even be loyal to his own party. It depends on the meaning of the word "is", doesn't it? If Trent said "I wish he became president to support my segragationism belief", I'd hold it against him. But he didn't. I heard he was supporting Stroms love of nice shoes. If Strom became president, he would have been a great nice shoe leader. Prove me wrong!
He was praising his love of the military?
Maybe his strength of debate?
Maybe his long life secrets?
Who says that's what part of Stroms presidential run Trent was praising? I don't know, you don't know, and the left wing racist extremists don't know. That's just what their little minds WANTED to hear.

Thanks for posting this link to the Malkin article. I first saw MM on CSPAN, and was struck by her intellectual honesty.
The conservative movement is indeed blessed with some very strong women writers and thinkers; conservative women seem to have skipped a generation--Phyllis Schlafly and her Eagle Forum, then a generation of baby boomer whiners, and finally some Ann Coulters and Michelle Malkins. How wonderful to see them on the move.

For all I know, Trent Lott could be a regular contributor to the United Negro College Fund. That's not the point. The point is he structured his words in a manner that left it open for interpretation, also given the fact that his past has some questionable episodes, such as the fraternity thing. Why even bring up Strom's 1948 run, weren't there better ways to praise him? When you are in a position of leadership you have to understand that your enemies will scrutinize everything you say. Lott is a poor leader, and that's the bottom line. I am sure the people of Mississippi think he is an excellent Senator, and he should continue to serve them. He should not continue to represent the GOP as the Senate Majority Leader.

It's funny how some posts on this thread suggest that this is all some Democrat plot and we can't "let them win". As if it's the cleverness of the Democrats that made Trent Lott say those idiotic things. It's on the same level as the DU types who claim Paul Wellstone's "memorial service" was a Republican plot.
