Lott needs to go and Hannity needs to let him go.Part of me wants to defend Lott because he's a Republican who is being unfairly attacked. But the other side of me wants Lott to go because he's been INEFFECTIVE (to say the least) as a leader in the Senate. Hit the road, Lott, and let someone else take over who can do a better job. What's so hard about that?! For victory & freedom!!!

I saw the original remarks that Lott made at Strom's B'day party on C-SPAN. I realized there and then that they were stupid even made in the context of the party.
It is undeniable that Lott is not the only senator or politician who has made questionable remarks. The point is that Lott's remarks were stupid. I think that the Pubbies could get a better leader than Lott.
Lott should go not because he's a racist. He should be replaced because he is stupid. We don't want a stupid person in a compromised position when we have an opportunity to make some progress.

I can understand your point completely. I feel the same way. I don't want to make THIS the issue he's 'let go' over, just cuz some liberals raised a stink over it.

Should Lott go because YOU don't like him or because he really is a racist? This issue is more about people who dislike of his accomodationist personality than anything he might have meant a week ago. That is why so many conservatives here and in the media want to use this as an excuse to oust him.

>>Part of me wants to defend Lott because he's a Republican who is being unfairly attacked. <<
I disagree that he has been "unfairly attacked" by conservatives. Cal Thomas, Thomas Sowell, and Charles Krauthammer have all called for his resignation of the Majority Leadership.
I call for him to step down, with good reason. He is an embarassment and has made racially insensitive remarks in a context of racially questionable associations. He doesn't pass the smell test, and has lost his authority. To leave Lott in his position is politically suicidal, IMHO, and that is the main point.
That is what I call attacking Lott "fairly."
