I happen to agree with Hannity. The GOP is proving that they can be petty, and are using the liberal media as a way to get rid of Lott, which they have been trying to do for a long time. This shows how spineless out leaders in the GOP can be.

I agree, that's what I'm mad about too. For some who are only interested in our political positioning here..it's abotu doing the right thing. The right thing is to point out this blazen double standard and demand the same standard be applied to democratic leadership, including the black caucus members themselves whom I'm sure we can find outrageous examples of racism in. I don't care really for Lott overall--I think he's spineless, but now is a good oppurtunity to point out such hypocracy. Unfortunately, we do not have the media on our side or I can guarantee you the racist black caucus would have backed away from their condemnation when the log in their eye was pointed out to them under pressure.

I hate to see Lott go for this issue....but he should have been gone a long time ago. I think Don Nickles from Oklahoma, would be an outstanding MW.

Lott has done and said much more than Saturday night's event. Do the research. He's at-best a former bigot. My money is on that he's a current one, too.

I've retired from TV, but maybe it's time to make a few appearances. We'll see. But I don't think anything will stop the current stampede. And if Lott resigns, I expect that the Democrats will -- if they haven't already -- do anal exams of his successor ... you know, digging through college news papers and frat records. After the borked Bork, they borked Doug Ginsburg. And that gave us Tony Kennedy -- a moderate justice. And what's amazing about this is that 2 years from now, Lott won't be an issue that resonates with the public even if he stays. The public is far more serious about national security and homeland security than this stuff. And if we're hit by another terrorist attack before the next election, we'll all be wondering how we allowed ourselves to be debating on Democrat turf. But we must not allow the Democrats to turn the Republican Party into the party of segregation, which is what's occurring now.

Than why do we support some of the people in the black caucus? Why don't we ask for Hitlery to step down. I'm sorry, but republicans may have a higher standard, but it's not that high, otherwise they'd be demanding all the LIBERAL RACISTS be held to the same standard. As long as folks like the Maxine Waters of the world are allowed to remain in power, then we support 1950's racism, just that it has a minority face now.

I think Bill Buckley has an excellent piece today addressing people who make your point. And if you believe Lott is a bigot TODAY, pardon me if I'm unconvinced. However, if you have some evidence to support such a bold charge, I'm sure we'd all like to examine it.

Brilliant. Very Clintonian of you. And to think that you're callilng on Lott to come forward with specifics, when you can't even provide us with a single example to support your "guess." I have no examples of Lott's being a segregationist TODAY. And apparently neither do you. It's one thing to call for his resignation. It's quite another to label him as you have.

Yup. Me, too. I don't care that much for Trent Lott as a senator. He caves in too easily, BUT I sure hate to see his head handed to the democrats on a platter.

Stop allowing the enemy to define the terms here. You're being stampeded.

You know, Mark, I don't even see this being so much about racism, as much as about stupidity. Of course the GOP isn't racist, but as long as Majority Leader Lott is around to demonize, the perception of racism is going to be easier to fabricate by the left.

As Malkin indicated in her column this morning; Lott isn't a racist, he's just a guy who does what he always does... he says what his audience (at the given time) wants to hear. This time, it blew up in all our faces... big time. Regardless of what the real truth is, the perception is that Trent Lott is now the face of the new Republican majority.

Lott had his chance to quell this tide days ago, with a forceful, forthright statement. HE could have told the left to go to hell, there was no way he was a racist. HE could have led the charge not to allow the left to define our party. But, in his usual predictable style, he didn't do anything like that. Instead, Lott chose to go on Sean's show for the softball treatment, so now WE are expected to fight for him?

We don't need people like this in our leadership!

Then your complaint is much different than what Lott's detractors are saying. In fact, some senators have already said that he could "win fogiveness" by supporting things like a minimum wage hike, housing subsidies, etc.

This isn't even about Lott anymore -- it's simply another tactic in pushing a left-wing agenda. At least they're consistent, though . . . It doesn't matter if you lynched black people in Alabama last week, as long as you toe the Democratic Party line this week.

But I'll bet he still wishes he won back in 1948.

Isn't that all we're talking about here?

Well it easy to see why they want to keep the guy nobody likes in power.

He's our guy and just because we hate his guts most of the time, we can't let the other team tell us whom to put on the field, or whom to pull from the line-up. This won't cost the Republicans any popular votes. Those few blacks who vote Republican aren't going to jump ship. The only weak sister on our team is Lott.

I hope the SOB ios tough enough to stick with a game plan. And I wish somebody on the Republican team had the brains and balls to proclaim to our brothers and sisters of darker hue:

The Republican Party is the party that was founded to end slavery and preserve the Union. The Democrat Party was the party of segregation for over 100 years. Jack Kennedy, FDR, Harry Truman all were segregationists and voted with the segregationist block for years.

The only difference between segregationists and today's Democrats is that today's Democrats keep Negroes "in their place" not by force of unconstitutional law, but by subsidizing a dependent lifestyle that dooms those who follow it to personal failure.
