Trent Lott: Racist Remark Controversy Shows Us The Meaning of "Is"
Trent Lott on The Free Republic ^ | December 11, 2002 | aas

Posted on 12/11/2002 9:12:00 PM PST by an amused spectator

A good friend put the Trent Lott controversy in perspective for me the other day:

It all depends on what the meaning of 'is' is.

Is Trent Lott a Republican, or Is Trent Lott a Democrat?

Bill Clinton 'is' a Democrat. Teddy Kennedy 'is' a Democrat. Bob Torricelli 'is' a Democrat. They all walk.

Bob Packwood 'is' a Republican. Bob Livingston 'is' a Republican. Trent Lott 'is' a Republican. They all get lynched by a Democrat media mob.

Listen up, folks - this isn't a tactical move on the part of the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself). This is pure strategy. This is "see Jane, see Jane run" for the illiterate denizens of the Democrat plantation.

"Trent Lott is a racist. Trent Lott is a top Republican. Therefore, all Republicans are racists."

That's all it is, in a nutshell. Terry "Gotbucks" McAwful, The Big Dog and their Democrat media lackeys are going to be feeding this pablum to the howling, ignorant Demo mob for the next two years if the Stupid Party gives in on this.

Time to tell 'em to shove it where the sun don't shine. We've already got evidence that the Democrat "journalists" are intentionally distorting what Lott actually said. They aren't the gatekeepers anymore, though they'd like to think so.

Us conservatives need to start pulling together to protect our weaker brethren in the Stupid Party.

Are we going to let the Dems out-strategerize us? ;-)

It doesn't benefit conservative Republicans to defend Lott. They guy buckles all the time. We need a change of Senate leadership, and if this is what it takes, let's not stand in the way when our liabilities destroy themselves.

Most Republicans live in eternal fear that the Democrats will say bad things about them. That makes it pathetically easy for the Democrats to pick them off, one at a time.

You don`t understand, Lott is not "pure." He has to go, why , back in 96, he voted for the same bill that Rat Kennedy did.

Actually, Trent Lott is a Democrat. That's the only explanation for why he acts like he's Tommy Daschle's b!tch.

Nope. He's yours.

Lott has made the fatal mistake of moving himself 100% into the liability column.

Thanks, Kid. I haven't gotten involved in the Lott wars that I understand are raging on the site, so I don't know if the rest of the Freepers are picking up on this move for what it is.

Thought I should point it out for some of them (plus my pal had a really good line, too!).

My foot...Lott is a damn fool. He has no spine and putting himself in this situation is simply bad for us. I don't want to "support the weak". If Lott can't stand on his own, then he certainly can't lead.

Oh, BTW, I don't give a damn about what any "Dem" said in the past. We need a politically sly leader in the senate, not one who is going to set himself and our party up for failure time and again.

trent lott IS the 'man' who sold law-abiding Conservatives out so clinton could slither away from impeachment hearings.

trent lott IS the 'man' who allowed the dangerous, destructive, needless power-sharing agreement with el diablo himself, tom daschle. I won't begin to list the damage that bipartisan bullsh!t has wrought.

trent lott IS the sole person to blame for the prediciment he IS in. Good for him. I hope he spends the remaining days of his life embarrassed and ashamed...as the disgraced former Senate Majority Leader who was forced to resign in shame.

If Lott steps down because of this the only republican "leader" that will have a chance of being seated will be Olympia Snowe.

Conservative republicans-

I like the order in which you place those.

Many (Rush) are Republican conservatives.

Since you aked for strategizing comments, I would say that you have misread the situation. The Dems definitely want Lott NOT TO RESIGN as Majority Leader.

That's precisely why the Republicans should ask Lott to step down.

Think about that. We ruin all of their diatribes if we get Trent to step down--at least if we do it pretty quickly. The Republican Party will come out on TOP of the Dems if we do this. It crushes the accusations that the Republicans are racists.

It is quite obvious to me that Daschle is desperately hoping for Lott to remain as Majority Leader. This is probably the main reason why he was soft on Lott until Maxine Waters accused him of being a weakling. Daschle loves the mess the Republicans are in, and he wants us to stay in it for two more years. It will give him every excuse in the world to fight the Republicans on all domestic issues and then blame the Republicans. And this garbage strategy will fool many of the swing voters, most of whom are like our own RINOs.

So, don't get sucked in by the fact that the Dems definitely are clamoring for Lott's resignation. It's a deception right out of their regular play book.

Anyway, Lott's not a very good Majority Leader anyway. This is a fine opportunity to fix a longstanding problem.

Son, I taught the damn class. And I assure you, you slept through it, IF you ever took it.

Lott volunteered for this. Either he's dumber than a post, or he's doing this on orders of Hillary Clinton and whatever's in his FBI file.
