The Reverend Al Sharpton says that he doesn't need the Democratic Party's support in order to capture its 2004 presidential nomination. Sharpton gave that interesting take in a Washington Times interview. He said, "We win or lose by our delegates. I think there will be an infrastructure we'll build that will put us on the ballot. People don't realize this is going to come down to delegates."
This is why I've anointed myself as America's New Black Leader. I've been calling the shots on this. The DNC isn't happy with Sharpton. They want him, Jesse Jackson, Carl McCall and Maynard Jackson in the back of the bus. They don't want them to get "uppity." The monolithic, 99% Democratic African-American vote is cracking and splintering.
Republican National Committee Chairman Marc Racicot wrote a letter to Reverend Sharpton on this: "I understand that you called my office and expressed a desire to meet with me to discuss a recent remark made by Trent Lott. Although I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you about any issue of concern or matter of mutual interest, my travel schedule for the next three days is very challenging.... Let me know if you would still like to meet and when your schedule would allow us to do so."
So Racicot is willing to meet with Al Sharpton. That's a smart move. We can't forget who Sharpton has been in the past, with Tawana Brawley and all the other stuff. But he's funny, and that masks some of the things this guy has done. They're dissing him at the DNC, and the RNC head is welcoming him with open arms.

The monolithic, 99% Democratic African-American vote is cracking and splintering. I'll believe THAT when I see it.

I agree. I'll believe it when I see a GOP Presidential Candidate gets at least 20% of the black vote.

In the upcoming democratic primary (2004) ...
Register as a democrat and vote for Crazy Al!
Time magazine reported a while back that the Rev. Al Sharpton is planning to run for president in 2004.
"I feel that the Democratic Party must be challenged in 2004 because it didn't fight aggressively to protect our voting rights in Florida," he said in a recent issue. "I think we need to look at running a black in the primary. I have said I would be available to do it."
Sharpton said the idea came to him while he sat under a tree in Sudan, which he visited in April 2001 on a fact-finding tour about slavery.
Assume GW has the Republican nomination sewn up. Its time for all good republicans to stand up and be counted. Lets take a page from Sen. McCains play book. Prior to the 2004 democratic presidential primary in your state, re-register as a democrat and vote for Al Sharpton!
Wouldnt it be great if Crazy Al won! At the very least, lets ensure he gets prime time speaking rights at the democratic convention. You gotta love it. Line up, sign up, and send this to all your like-minded friends.
