The earlier post of this report was merely a paraphrased excerpt. Freepers know NewsMax loves them but please, when posting our reports, do so in full using text as written.

I've said it before on FR, but let me repeat. I have no problem with Trent relinquishing his leadership post in trade for the DEMS disallowing Sen. Byrd from holding any leadership role (even temporarily) ever again. It's a fair trade....especially if we come out of the process with Don Nickles as Majority Leaders.

"Byrd Never Apologized for Klan Membership"
Hunh. Never had to. Nobody ever called him to task for it. Klan membership was a resume enhancement in the Democrat hierarchy of West Virginia.

Robert Byrd should resign from the Senate and should have years ago. Not only has he been pretty much unrepentant about his KKK affiliation, but he probably wastes more U.S. tax dollars each year, than any other Senator. With his disgraceful parliamentary antics. Byrd is the worst Senator on the hill and his addiction to Pork projects is disgusting. Byrd is trying to pave the entire state of West Virginia with federal funds. He is a cantankerous party hack, who has no redeeming contribution to any kind of policy.

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Sorry Carl, didn't want the Supreme Court to come and get us if we use more than 100 words without permission!

annie...I totally agree.Republicans need to start holding the Dems to the same standards they face in the media. If the Dems are pulling out all the figure heads to help this gain momentum(NAACP,Jessie,etc...),the GOP should ask for this(trade)immediately and see what kind of a reaction it gets nationally. If the GOP's move is ignored,it must be tossed right back into Daschle,Gephart,Pelosi's lap.Let's see how they handle the hot potatoe....

Carl says that Byrd became a "cross burning" member of the KKK. I would like to see some proof of this.

When Democrats are nailed for wrong doing, their defense is always, "...the Republicans do it, too..." I'm not interested in following Democrat leadership on anything.
While I thought Senator Lett-Daschle-walk-all-over-me-Lott was showing signs of a little stiffer spine, I don't think the Republican party should waste any time, or allow itself to be taken off of message any longer in defending Lott.
He should, for the sake of the party, step down. He had his chance the first time the Republicans had control and he wasted it on "power sharing" with Daschle.
Senate Republicans need someone with a spine, but if the majority leader's foot is in his mouth, it can't be up Daschle's aschle.

This whole Trent Lott thing is like a bad mother-in-law joke. You know, like: "How do you feel when your mother-in-law drives over a cliff in your brand new SUV?"
Let's just quietly usher the idiot off the SML pedestal, thank him for all his craven and cowardly appeasement over the years - then suit up and knock the holy crap out of the sanctimonious hypocrites in their glass houses who dared criticize from the ramparts of the 'Rat Plantation.
To: Carl/NewsMax
Sure, it's hypocrisy. But you don't fight these kinds of battles by pitting one hypocrisy against another. In the end, Lott is defanged. He should step aside and let some new blood run the party. His day has come and gone.

"the top Democrat has never expressed much personal contrition for his role as Ku Klux Klan Grand Kleagle"So he was the Grand Kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan, and now he's the Grand Kleagle of the Senate Democrats.
By they way, did he ever resign from the Klan?
To: Carl/NewsMax
I look upon the Klan as a silly, asinine group that tries to act outside the law,
and uses violence and intimidation as their currency."
This sounds about like something Osama would have said about The Taliban, e.g.,
"those guys are so silly, they operate in the open and couldn't pull off a covert
operation to kill infidels if their lives depended on it".
Sounds like he realized the Klan was just not the way to go in promoting racism.
Taking on a veneer of respectability and becoming an elected Sentor seemed to be
the smarter way to accomplish those ends.

He also voted against Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas, the only two blacks
ever nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court.
Liberal or conservative, Byrd has no use for them if they are black.
IN-Freakin'-Credible.
That will be a real ice-breaker at the next faculty party (mostly liberal Democrat):
"Name the sitting Democratic Senator who voted against every black ever nominated to sit
on The Supreme Court of the USA."
I'll be able to tell who knows the answer by the glares they shoot my way.
At least the Klansman is consistent.

I don't recall if all your questions are answered...but columnist Michelle Malkin
covered a lot of this in her column at:

OH REALLY!! Well, I think Mr. Byrd needs to come clean immediately, so we can begin the "healing" process.
I think we need to dig up every quote, every association and check every sheet in his closet to make SURE that he's cleansed himself of this before it taints the entire democrat party.
Heavens!
