We still need Trent in the Senate, just not as Majority Leader.

Yes, I meant he should step aside as Leader. It's unfortunate that he'll leave under this cloud, which will appear to some as confirmation of the comments by Slumlord Gore and Hymietown Jackson, but it's necessary. It's a shame he's been Leader this long.

"We still need Trent in the Senate, just not as Majority Leader."

No, we need a Republican representing Mississippi, but we surely do not need Trent Lott, and this has nothing whatsoever to do with his remarks at the Thurmond Party, truthful though they may have been.

We'll never get meaningful tort reform with Lott in there - his brother-in-law is the biggest tort lawyer in Mississippi.

If Trent gets disgusted with his colleagues -- who may be as spineless as he is -- he might just resign the whole shebang and go back to Pascagoula to watch the ocean waves and enjoy his tax cuts. Then Governor Musgrove (who I assume will be challenged in 2003 by Haley Barbour, loser to John Stennis in 1982), can name a Democrat to fill the remaining four years of Trent's term. Then it will be 50 Republicans, 49 Democrats, and Farmer Jim.

Trent rolls over to the Dim's to easily. We really need a leader with some backbone. Bond would make a great leader and he has some balls. I would like to see him as the majority leader. He could be effective and not have this "baggage".
