His friends and his wife Esther, who is suffering from breast cancer, worry that if he is not released soon, he could die in prison. Well, that is what a life sentence is supposed to mean.

>>He is not permitted to speak Hebrew nor study Hebrew texts, although Muslim prisoners are permitted to study Arabic texts.
Interesting. I'm sure Abdul Hamid, responsible for Mike Spann's death is allowed the Koran.

Some one high up is keeping him locked up to cover their own ass. Wonder who.

I'm sorry, but shouldn't your headline be, "Time to Execute Pollard????" They shoot horses, don't they. Is Pollard better than a bobtailed nag??
To: Nachum
He should have been executed long ago for being the traitor he is. How can any sane person feel sorry for him?

With respect to the other ciminals mentioned at the start of the article.....was their punishment too light, or Pollard's too heavy?

Let the Pollard bashing begin.
Damn right...I didn't even bother to read the original posting; I don't need or want to hear any of the diversionary tactics. May he rot where he is. Pollard is a traitor, plain and simple.
To: Nachum
"...Pollard was never indicted for compromising codes, agents, or war plans..."What a load! He turned over diplomatic codes to the Israelis. He also turned over a mountain of secret data on Soviet missile sites and much more besides -- enough to fill up his entire prison cell if in hard copy. He's lucky all he got was indefinite incarceration.
Did you know that the Rosenbergs were never charged with treason? They were "only" charged with conspiracy to commit espionage and that was more than enough to justify their execution. Like I said, Pollard is lucky. He can continue to rant and rave from his cell as much as he wants. He can even keep on divorcing wives and remarrying. That's more than he would be doing if it were up to me.

The federal marshal replied, "No, Jew, do it yourself." Jonathan understood that the guard wanted him to wet his pants and humiliate himself still further. He felt that the spectacle of a kipa-wearing Jew in manacles with wet pants marching past the public would be a disgrace to the Jewish people.
I do not for one second believe this to be true.
I will toss the rest of the article with it.
To: Nachum
Let the Pollard bashing begin. If only we could 'bash' him. Instead, we will pay for his room and board for the rest of his miserable life.
Tough. Should have thought about that before stealing our military information.
Rot in He77.

POLLARD MUST DIE IN A YANKEE PRISON!!!
He is a traitor and has done great damage to the US. He would do even greater damage if released before his death. He would serve as an example to other US citizens spying for other nations, Israel or other countries, that the employing nation would get him out of jail.
Foreign nations could recruit/employ other spies, telling them that, in addition to great pay, there is little downside because, if caught, we'd get you out. We did it for Pollard, we'd do it for you."
In fact, I was surprised that the Israelis didn't buy Pollard's freedom from Willie. Willie was selling pardons. Rich was in Isreal and knew the price. He must have talked to the locals and they certainly had the bucks to pay Willie to spring Pollard.
POLLARD MUST DIE IN A YANKEE PRISON!!!

Okay..
I stopped reading after the first several paragraphs were all along the lines of "Well, look how easy those guy's got off"
Doesn't matter.
Just because OJ got away with murder doesn't mean we should throw the cell doors wide and let all murderers go free.
If anything it means these others should have been punished more harshly.

I hope you won't consider this "Pollard Bashing."
But the spying business has always been a rather brutal game. There's not a lot of slack cut for opertives on either side. So once a guy signs up for that line of work, seems to me it comes down to the old saying;
You buy's your ticket. And...
You take's your ride.
Mr. Pollard may be sorry now. But he knew what he was getting into. Nothing personal you understand

I have long felt nothing but contempt for Pollard. If he never got out, it would be fine with me.
But I will admit that the case for his release has gained a certain amount of moral weight in view of our present posture towards Israel's enemies. While previously I thought there was absolutely zero chance Bush would entertain a call for his release, I now believe that chance has creeped up to maybe 1 or 2 in a hundred. If Iraq attacks us on US soil, or Hezbollah and Hamas make war against us, his chances go up even higher.

I'm amazed that this author uses Pollard's Jewishness as a crutch. Notwithstanding the fact that he's become devout (in my opinion, not unlike the convict-born again christian phenomenon), there is no dispute (he accepted his guilt and Israel owned up in the mid nineties that he was an "Intelligence Resource") that he committed a highly traitorous act. I know that this article was written to evoke strong sentiment from the Jewish population: ...he felt acutely embarrassed to be publicly seen in manacles wearing a kipa He is a criminal! He can wear manacles like every other convicted felon in the US! As far as kosher meals and hebrew materials, I find it hard to believe that he cannot get access to those materials, but if it is the case, the life he's living is of his own making.

Pollard gets bashed plenty (and deserves every bit of it). Let's all bash the author of this ludicrous tissue of lies instead!
To: Nachum
Let the Pollard bashing begin. You're right. In an ideal world, Pollard would not be in prison.
He'd be dead in the cemetary, along with his wife, and his nearest surviving relatives would have been billed for the bullets.
