Police arrest former Webb commissioner, deputy
BY TRICIA CORTEZ Times staff writer
Acting on a tip, the Laredo Police Department's Narcotics Task Force reportedly seized nearly 300 pounds of marijuana Monday evening at the home of a former Webb County Commissioner on Ceniso Loop in south Laredo.
Officers arrested Maria Rosa "Rosie" Centeno, 52, and her 56-year-old husband, Ramiro Hinojosa, who was identified as an ex-county deputy by police officials.
"At around 6:30 p.m., task force officers obtained consent from Centeno to a search. In a room in her house, used for storage, they found two boxes with marijuana," Police Officer Juan Rivera said Monday.
Centeno and Hinojosa were arrested and taken to the Police Department. They are charged with second degree possession of marijuana and were later transported to Webb County jail.
Police officials confirmed that the two boxes contained 296.5 pounds of marijuana.
In the 1986 general election, Centeno was elected to fill an unexpired term left vacant by her father, Rodolfo "R.C." Centeno, who passed away while in office.
She was appointed by the executive committee of the Webb County Democratic Party to be the candidate in the November general election of 1986, county officials said.
Centeno finished the two years and was re-elected to a full four-year term in 1988.
She ran again in 1992 but lost to fellow Democrat Jorge de la Garza.
County officials said it was rumored that Centeno was going to run against Commissioner Jerry Vasquez in the next election cycle.

The corrupting influence of the drug wars.
Why would you say that? Perhaps they are chronic medical marijuana hangnail sufferers, and buy everything in bulk.

Police Seize 300 Pounds of Marijuana from Former Webb County Democrat Commissioner Now, now, now -- he probably needed whatever comfort he could find to take the edge off his Post-Election Stress Disorder.

CJ got the naive so you get the inane?

This commissioner is a SHE. But I assume she supported Tony! in 2002 because Tony carried 89 percent of the vote in Webb Co. That's a better margin than Landrieu polled in Orleans Parish on Dec. 7.

Selling by the oz. that's about $1.4 mil if the stuff is any good and $480 g's if the stuff is mexican brick, either way, people couldn't make this much money from a simple weed unless it's illegal

Oh you're so clever. What ya on this morning?

Oh you're so clever.
Thanks. Wish I could say the same about you.
What ya on this morning?
What am I on? My third cup of coffee. How about you?
To: philman_36
Would a corrupting influence be enough of a reason to punish their free will choices? Aren't they endowed with free will to choose whether to gather 300 pounds of weed or not? Or were they somehow mysteriously forced to horde such a great amount because of the law prohibiting it? Are they no better than zombies with no accountability for their own actions? Or is their behavior all the whiny cop-out fault of society somehow?

What am I on? My third cup of coffee.I think we may have found your problem.
And let me guess. Your clever reply will be. "And what's your problem."

Oh you're so clever. What ya on this morning? He's suffering from envy.

No, no relation. I am an ice skater and Axel Paulsen is the name of a skating jump that I aspire to attain.

You're showing symptoms of burnout. Thankless toil can do that to you. ;^)
Count yourself lucky no one drew the psychotic babbler role.

Off with their heads!
Are you defending these people?
