Suit Against Cheney Task Force Dismissed
By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal judge Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by the investigative arm of Congress against Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force.
U.S. District Judge John Bates said the case filed by Comptroller General David Walker against the vice president is an unprecedented act that raises serious separation-of-powers issues between the executive and legislative branches of government.
"No court has ever before granted what the comptroller general seeks," wrote Bates, an appointee of President Bush.

"Apples and Oranges! Hitlery WAS a private Citizen who was given a whole bunch of Federal Dollars and then spent them in secret.
Chaney is an Officer of the Federal Gov'mt and has the right to have meetings in private!"
Bump!
There is a big difference between Hillary (private citizen) and Cheney (elected official).

The people the VP meet with were not elected. What business did they have with dealing with national policy?

The difference is Dick Cheney was elected VP, Hillary got the first ladyship by being a whore. Actually I didn't mind too much that the HealthCare taskforce stuff was secret. We should judge policy suggestions by the policy suggested. A good idea is a good idea no matter who was in the room when it was written down. The reverse holds for a bad idea. The energy taskforce came up with some solid ideas, and most of the more sweeping measures were bill propositions, which would ensure there's public debate, so why does it really matter who was in the room when they came up?

"Executive privilege" is one of many constitutional ideas that is never mentioned specifically in the Constitution.

Cheney should be forced to release this. I don't believe in executive privilege.Separate issue. congress has the power.

I am still waiting for CNN, MSNBC, FOX, NBCABCCBS and CNBC to have a BREAKING NEWS ALERT, about this ruling. They all spent months talking this up as though Cheney was some kind of felon and had committeed neferious acts. I won't hold my breath.

an unprecedented act that raises serious separation-of-powers issues between the executive and legislative branches of government. You mean, a judge finally told the Rats the "unprecedented" thing they want is either without merit, against the law, or just ridiculous? That's almost unbelievable....must not be a Rat judge. Good news bump.

The people the VP meet with were not elected.correct. The rat should have filed suit against them to release. Guess how far that suit would have went .

The elected VP felt that they had the necessary expertise to contribute possitively to the discussion. We elected him to do things like that.

We can assume that we won't be in power forever, so there will be a time that we rue the day that cheered for more secrecy in government decision-making.

It was only an "issue" when the Demoncrats were trying to "define" themselves...since the Demoncrats have been recently defined as "no clue losers" in Novemeber...this issue is DEAD-DEAD-DEAD!

Every member of Congress meets with lobbyists to discuss policy. This is also true of policymakers in the Executive Branch. If you want to ban lobbying, then presumably you would also ban members of Congress from meeting with lobbyists. On the surface this might seem like a good idea, but lobbyists are not just "special interests"; they are also people with a lot of expertise in their respective fields, and they might use this expertise to steer government away from bad policies.

"Battle between yourselves " It wasn't even between the Branches- Walker could not get backing from the congress for his suit.
If congress itself had asked for the info the case would have been a noteworthy battle of privileges.

We can assume that we won't be in power forever6 months agor I would have agreed but since then I have strong doubts the liberals will ever see control of a branch of government again.
