Kyl, McCain to inspect border area
Mike Sunnucks The Business JournalArizona Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain and the two Congressmen representing Tucson will tour southern Arizona and the Mexican border tomorrow (today, 12-5-2002) with a heavy focus on border security and illegal immigration's impact on health care.
The Republican senators, GOP Congressman Jim Kolbe and incoming Democratic freshman Rep. Raul Grijalva will make stops in Tucson, Nogales and Douglas.
In Tucson, the delegation will talk about the strain illegal immigrants place on health care systems, especially emergency rooms and the need for federal assistance.
The elected officials will tour a new Border Patrol Station in Douglas. The rural area has been deluged by illegal crossings and drug smuggling in recent months because other border areas have had security tightened since Sept. 11.

If our own Senators can see what is being done with the hi tech equipment on Roger Barnett's ranch, maybe they can do something in Washington to do the same on a larger scale and bring us closer to a solution to the disagreements over solutions to the increasing problems we are having on the border!

Problem is, a lot of Republicans seems to like having the illegals cross the border...What was the solution? Redistribute some of my paid taxes to the hospitals in your are to help cover the cost of their healthcare??? Yep, that's what we need...

A certainly ironic development would be if they were shot at by Mexican illegals / drug runners / military.

McCain is well aware that the border intruder fence was installed backwards. That is, it was installed to keep Americans from climbing it to enter Mexico, instead of vice versa. It was purposely installed backwards in order to not offend the Mexican government.

madfly: keep us up to date. I'm optimistic. There has been a lot of publicity about the situation with illegals, and everyone I know thinks it is just plain nutty that our freedoms are being curtailed when everyone expected the border to be closed for a time after 911. Instead, the borders are even more porous, and the politicians who don't get it still keep trying to sneak things through.
Politicians are opportunists. They want to win. If they can see that our concerns about the lack of border security and the unwillingness to stabilize the population will translate into votes, lots of them, just as it has with Representative Tancredo, they just might take this issue.
I don't care what the political affiliation is of our supporters in government. If it becomes a rally issue for the Democrats, well, so be it. We've really been let down on this issue by those in power, who have put cheap labor and corporate profit on a higher pedestal than the real concerns of US citizens.

They have just recently gone operational and they are test-driving it.
Operational mobile satellite Internet broadcasting system.
Able to reach any point on the earth and broadcast images in real time.
The system is man-portable with an operational radius from the mobile satellite base station of ten miles.
