THREAT TO EMBASSY

The British High Commission in Kenya has closed its embassy after receiving a specific security threat.

"We received a specific threat against the High Commission and have closed the High Commission until further notice while we conduct investigations," Mark Norton the embassy's official spokesman said.

Norton said he could not divulge the details of the threat, and would not say who had issued it.

But said the embassy would remain closed indefinitely and would only reopen after the threat had been investigated.

He spoke six days after three Israelis, nine Kenyans, three suicide bombers and an unidentified person were killed when a bomb-laden Pajero rammed into the Paradise hotel at the coastal tourist resort of Mombasa.

An almost simultaneous missile attack narrowly missed an Israeli airliner taking off nearby.

The Mombasa bombing was Kenya's bloodiest since the 1998 US embassy bombings, widely thought to be the work of Saudi-born militant Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network.

I get the same feeling about this Al-Qeda bunch that I do when I step outside with a $10.00 bottle of Amdro, only to see terror cells pop up again the next day.

I'm sure I just saw something on the TV in my local gym about a US embassy in the area being closed too - anyone else seen anything on that yet ?
