'Fighting Whities' T-Shirts Sell [$100,000.00 in Less than a Year]

The effort began last winter when a group of Indian students at the University of Northern Colorado asked nearby Eaton High School to change the nickname from 'Fighting Reds' because they thought the nickname was offensive.

When the school refused, members of the UNC intramural basketball team, made up of Indians and whites decided to get even.

They named themselves the 'Fighin Whites' and began wearing T-shirts bearing the name.

After getting national media attention, they began selling the shirts, which bear the slogan 'Everything's going to be all white,' from their Web site.

More than 15,000 shirts and hate have been sold, raising at least $100,000.

'It's actually kind of an amazing thing that happened here in Colorado. Not only did they raise the level of debate but they turned it around and raised money for Native American scholarships,' said Charlene Teters VP of the American Indian Movements National Coalition on Race in Sports.

This article is poorly written

I agree. I don't understand what is going on: are the students angry over the name "Reds?" Or are they angry about the P.C. nonsense? I don't get it. Anyone know?

Thanks for web link, it explains it all. Seems their project may have backfired - people seem to be buying the shirts to make the opposite statement.

Why the number 10? Everyone knows that in order to generate real outrage, the number on the shirts should be "88". </sarcasm>

I believe Target pulled all of the shirts off the shelves after protest with the numbers on them.

I don't understand who is supposed to be insulted. If it was meant to insult someone, I don't think its working.
