Ronald Deibert, a University of Toronto associate professor of political science, wants people to grab their cameras and hit the shopping malls Dec. 24 and participate in World Sousveillance Day.

Surveillance means "to view from above." Sousveillance means "to view from below."

OK, I read just a little further, it was definitely when I read these words, "associate professor" in conjunction with; "of Toronto", that I stopped reading-

On the day before Christmas, at noon, local time, all over the world, Deibert wants citizens to "shoot back" at surveillance cameras -- not with guns, but with cameras of their own. Participants are to head out, in disguise, to their favorite malls and public spaces, and photograph all the security cameras they find.

Black spray paint is effective as well.

That a professor, associate or otherwise, can conjure up such an absurd and bizarre stunt is yet more evidence of the mental rot infecting universities.

I saw the man on FOX News and he spoke well but his message was flakey. There is far less here than what shows on the surface.

The man is a conservative wannabe but is having a really hard time.

But is he limber enough? Not just anyone can do a proper double-reverse side flip-kick shuffle walk! It takes real talent and skill. Is John Cleese available for the position?

Personally, I'm in favor of cameras in public places, especially schools, national borders, and high crime areas. And this is from a Mom who has had to spank a child in Wal-Mart.....

Paula Kelliher, marketing director of the upscale Galleria Mall in White Plains, New York, warns that photography, especially of surveillance cameras, is not permitted on mall property.

Hey, I'm in favor of security as much as the next guy. But make up your mind lady. You can't have it both ways unless we let you, and hopefully people will respond accordingly.

"...Deibert warns that photographing security cameras will quickly cause large men wearing navy blue blazers and two-way radios to place their hands over your camera lens..."

I'm of the opinion that most video cameras positioned in (more or less) plain sight are fakes.

I frequently take the opportunity to discreetly make obscene gestures at such devices and have never once triggered any discernable reaction. (except from my wife, who rolls her eyes, or my daughter, who bursts out laughing)

The real surveillance camerabs are behind mirrors, or other concealment devices.

I am photographing our new cameras at the traffic signals here in Montgomery County.

"I would be upset if they came and started taking picture of surveillance cameras around (police) headquarters," Pignataro added. "Everyone's aware of the possibility of a terrorist attack."

This morning, I shot a terrorist in my pajamas, how he got in my pajamas I'll never know. - Groucho TightSqueeze

Do you ever find yourself not punishing your child in public
out of fear of being reported as a child beater or labeled an
unfit parent?

Oh, absolutely not, because I never punish my children. Not only that, but I don't discuss not punishing them in a public forum that leaves a permanent electronic "paper" trail.

ooops...
