NFL Player's Charity Event Ends in Brawl

REVERE, Mass. --

A charity fund-raiser hosted by New England Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest ended in a brawl involving 300 people, police said.

The fight early Friday morning at the "Thanksgiving Jam" at Club Skyline at Wonderland Greyhound Park was caused by tensions over long coat-check lines as people exited, police said.

There was one arrest but no serious injuries in the brawl, which 40 police broke up about 2:15 a.m. McGinest was not involved.

A Patriots spokesman said the team had no affiliation with event, a benefit for the Ronald McDonald House that drew about 1,000 people.

In 1999, a woman accused then-Patriot wide receiver Terry Glenn of groping her outside another benefit hosted by McGinest. She and Glenn reached an undisclosed settlement last year.

At the same event, at The Palace in Saugus, a fistfight reportedly broke out between Patriot teammates Lawyer Milloy and Vincent Brisby.

After Friday fight, Wonderland informed the city of Revere that it will close Club Skyline, where a man was shot and wounded in October.

The fight ... was caused by tensions over long coat-check lines

Well, as long as they had a good reason.

I thought football related events were supposed to end in brawls.

I agree....coat checking should be banned, or at least gov. regulated.

I refuse to go to a charity event unless there is violence, and mayhem.

Darn right. That's why the NFL works so much with the United Way.

Too bad Madden wasn't there to give the play-by-play.

I can't wait until the WWF charity event.

That'll be a real doozy.

Yeah, but it will be scripted. (Sorry to those out there who think wrestling is real.)

Sounds like the sort of thing that would happen in my neck of the woods.

LOL! When I was a boy, a fistfight broke out following a Baptist Church business meeting. It was over who was going to be the regular church pianist.

The next "bidness meetin" had much higher attendance.

Well, to be fair, the last wedding reception I attended ended with a fist-fight started by the bride's father commenting that one of the groom's friend had "hair like a girl."

Dang! What decade was that?
