Statement By: GOVERNOR JEB BUSH

2002 Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 27, 2002

“Thanksgiving is our traditional national celebration of all the blessings we enjoy as Americans. Freedom, families and faith are the very foundations of our liberty and our way of life, and I encourage every Floridian to enjoy this holiday weekend in the true spirit of giving thanks.

“This holiday began as a celebration of new friends in a New World, and an expression of gratitude for a long journey just completed. Today we can give thanks for having accomplished so much on our national journey since last year’s terrorist attacks of September 11. We now cherish our liberty even more dearly than before, and we honor even more highly the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform who are even now protecting our liberty both here and abroad. Above all, we give thanks for the precious gift of life itself, and I encourage all Floridians to recommit themselves to living lives filled with purpose.

It was always so difficult to decide which of the two states, Florida or Georgia, was the best in the USA. So some 14 yrs ago I moved here, within sight and stone's throw of Georgia, but still IN Fla.

It is still a good place to live, but been discovered. And now I can neither see-- nor throw a stone-- into Georgia any more, but somehow I still feel better just knowing it's there.

I think it is the most beautiful flag in the US, except maybe I also like Alaska.

That's just a bad version of the flag. I like their flag.

It does make the state seal more important, IMHO. And it subtely keeps the "southern heritage" alive with the St. Andrews cross.

I love how Jeb always gives statements and emails on holidays. Sometimes it seems like most pols have forgotten about them. And yes, I'm very thankfull for you and all of the people I've met on FR. And that most of my people won.... Actually I had a funny dream last night... dreamed Jeb was working a lemonade stand for charity or something at a fair. I wound up talking to him about Catholism after he sung a bar of a song that had something about Mary at the end. I am Catholic, BTW. It was very funny.
