To what extent are records available on draft registrations and classifications of a politician who was prime draft age during Nam's hottest years - but never served? And - assuming they are available - where would I find them? (No DD214 on this guy; he never served - despite being a big jock at the time.) Thanks in advance; feel free to email any suggestions you want private.
With all the liberals' talk of "chicken hawks," wouldn't you find it interesting if a college football player who ended up a politician years after Nam miraculously avoided the draft in spite of being prime draft age at the height of Nam?
As for your question, this guy's life has been rather dishonorable ever since.
My dad served in korea, was drafted in and placed in an office position and later as someone who taught english to the koreans. He never saw combat (at least not that he has ever told me about) but mainly spent his days with a really good looking korean actress (and also poor children at orphanges) teaching her english (I have often wondered about those pics of her dad still has....).
My point being is some people had it easier then others and some did not go at all, but what the people I have seen in the military care about is how you view NOW. As long as the left hates them and the right loves them they won't care about the record of a politician, what they will care about (like all groups) is what the politician will do for them - THAT is why groups like NOW worshipped clinton no matter what he did, but if Bush had did the same thing in the oval office they would decry him as a sexist pig who took advantage of some poor helpless girl and call for him to resign.
dishonorable is an interesting choice of words...must be clinton :)
Timeline has him up for draft BEFORE he went to college. This isn't a Joe Namath story.
I've just done that. Thanks.
