Vanity- Tongue piercing

As I said earlier, I'm sorry I ever started this thread. It is just an excuse for people to sit back and judge the character of someone they know nothing about.

I have read through the thread, and have come to the following conclusions.
Your daughter is lonely. She wants desperately to fit in. Even to the point of piercing her tongue.
She may also be trying to boost her popularity with guys in general. This can be a miserable age for a woman if she feels nobody is paying attention to her.
My approach, at this point would be ... delay ... delay ... delay. The longer you can delay, the more likely she will rationalize herself out of the idea.
For instance, you could say ... "Just wait until you've graduated from college" or some other such goal which is 6 months or so off.
Finally, you (and your husband) need to do what you can to inject some newness into her life. Something to take her mind off of whatever she feels she is missing. She needs to have more going on in her life. The tongue-piercing can be understood as an attempt to jump-start her life. If you can find something else that would accomplish this same goal, the tongue-piercing idea may well slip into obscurity.

Just by skimming through this thread, I can tell that a lot of people don't know what they're talking about. I'm 20 years old, so I figured I could give you a younger version of advice. First of all...not every girl that has a tongue ring gets it to better their ability to perform fellatio. Second...if you have a tongue ring, it does not make you a whore. I know personally, many decent girls that have it done. Third...getting all crazy and taking away tuition money is not going to make matters better. Which is better; a tongue ring and a college degree, or just the tongue ring? If she really wants it, she's going to get it regardless. Also, it's possible that it would ruin your relationship with her, and by her telling you that she is getting something like that done shows that you do have good relationship. I would say that the best thing you can do is insist that she research the possible risks of tongue piercing. Then, if she does decide to go through with it, help her in choosing where she gets it done. Make sure it is a reputable, sterile establishment with all of their licenses up to date. If you upset her about the issue, she is liable to rebel and just go anywhere, ignoring any precautions that should be necessary. The only other thing is...all of you people saying that if she wants to get her tongue pierced, she's not a Christian...you must not be very good Christians either...it's not your place to judge. Okay first off i cannot believe how ignorant some people who have responded to you are. First as with any piercing (including the ears) there are always going to be a risk for infections. That is most likely from poor after care. I have my tongue pierced and my belly button pierced. I am neither a skank or a slut. I am a married mother of 1 daughter. I did it because I wanted to not to fit in or please my husband sexually. I wanted my tongue pierced because I did. I also have 2 tattoos. Big deal. Your daughter knows your concerns and as she is 18 she can do it anyway. I guess what i would suggest is that if she is going to do it despite your concern go with her to be sure it is a sterile environment. You don't have to support the piercing it's self, but you should be sure if she going to do it anyway that she is safe. Not all people with tattoos and piercing are skanks, slut or freaks. I am a nurse so I consider myself a professional. My tongue piercing doesn't interfere with my ability to perform my job and I don't flash it around so most people i work don't even know I have it done. Please don't generalize everyone into one group.
