BERLIN (Reuters) - German police mistakenly beat up their own undercover detectives when a demonstration turned violent in the northern city of Hamburg.
Police were monitoring a rally of some 3,000 people protesting against the demolition of illegal squatters' homes when violence broke out late last Saturday evening.
Several hundred helmet-clad riot police then clashed with the protesters, including plain-clothes officers who had been shoved into the centre of the crowd.
Local political leaders from the Hamburg Social Democrats investigating the matter said the officers tried to identify themselves with a password.
But communication efforts failed and riot police beat their colleagues with batons, leaving two with head injuries.

Heh, yeah... I guess they weren't displaying the color of the day (or event or whatever). Gotta have a system or you'll get burned.

Die Polizei carry machine pistols as standard uniform. No one screws with the German police, period. If only our Border Patrol were to follow their example.
To: knighthawk

I am surprised that hasn't happen in the US.
"Police burtaility? There ain't no police brutality!"
To: PatrioticAmerican
Police brutality simply does not exist. If they stop you and ask for a blood alcohol level, and you deny them the chance...they simply yank you out of your car, and take it. If you happen to challenge them, even while you are drunk....they will simply throw you to the ground and handcuff you. Its real simple, you don't challenge German cops. I doubt if more than 2 cops a year get convicted in court over brutal treatment.

Yeah, I bet they did. Just one question.. Why are political leaders investigating a local police matter? Makes one ask how badly were they beaten?

Serves the creeps right-- Perhaps you think squatting is an okay thing to do, O newbie cop-hater.

Local political leaders from the Hamburg Social Democrats investigating the matter said the officers tried to identify themselves with a password. I think a badge (shield) might have been more effective.

I think he forgot the < /sarcasm> tag... but then again you have zero tolerance for ANY remark that could conceiveably be construed by ANYONE as anti-LEO or anti_gooberment... which demonstrates your intellectual depths. OTOH, I guess it's hard to drown if you're no more than ankle deep...
