If the Reagan Administration was responsible for anything, it was supporting the presidency of George H. Bush who appointed Elizabeth Dole to head the Red Cross ...

Refresh my memory. Since when does the US President get to name the head of the American Red Cross?

Quite right ... I misspoke.

Applied her skills with safety and health in the workplace (Dole being the primary point man for nationwide drug testing in the corporate governance sphere) as his appointee to Labor Secretary as head of the Red Cross.

In any case, Shalala and others recognized full well how critical to good government was her "revamping the entire U.S. Blood System" during her initial volunteer year.

Thanks for keeping me correct!
