Well look at it this way Doctor. Daschle would have passed all the appropriation bills this year but he decided on a continuing resolution to continue them until next year when he might have the house and he would certainly have 2 or 3 more votes in the Senate. Then he looks up on election night and realized he has handed control of this years appropriations to Bush and Trent Lott.

Then he finds out Bush has talked to a bunch of Democrat Senators and they are ticked at what McAuliffe and Daschle had done to them. AFter the chats Daschle no longer even had 40 votes to filibuster the Home Security bill. Bush had 65 votes to bring it up over Daschles dead body. All Daschle could do was pretend it was his idea to bring it up. Bush was prepared to humiliate him by passing it his way, before Talent took office with the same senators who had blocked bush in 2001 and 2002. Those Democratic senators used to be aligned with their brother Daschle. Now they were scared to death of George Dubya Bush.

Imagine before the new Republicans even take office,Bush has control of 16 of your senators. Look at the cloture vote on Homeland Security. It was 65 to 29. Bush had 16 Democrats who had served the last two years fighting bush, now voting with him. Note that 6 Democrats didn't even show up to vote.

That is called humiliation city.

Daschle was so mad at Bush and Lott he tried to kick Rush Limbaugh in the teeth.... but his feet would not go that high over his head..
