Hillary! would never sacrifice herself in 2004. Remember, the Dimms choose their candidate very early in 2004, so she'd have to announce in January or February 2003.

She's setting herself up as an alternative for 2008, when the WH is open.

There has been a "scenario" posted here where the chosen candidate (Gore ???) is in a horrible accident (plane crash) or has a family/health emergency (child near death, cancer) and must drop out with only a few months to go -- Hillary then "steps in" to SAVE the Democratic party (she could not make it thru' a long candidacy and strong debates)
