"But now, with Republicans taking over and Jeffords faced with minority status, Vermont's man of integrity apparently wants back in.

Reports the Washington Times:

"According to a senior Senate leadership source, the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP — so long as he retained his committee chairmanship."

So far GOP reaction has been underwhelming:

IF TRUE, THIS NEEDS TO BE MADE PUBLIC! SHOW THIS MUTHER EFFER FOR WHAT HE IS. MOST PEOPLE IN TUNE WITH POLITICS ALREADY KNOW JEFFORD'S IS A POWER MONGER WHO IS FOR SALE. THIS WILL ONLY PROVE IT. COME ON, WHITEHOUSE, SHOUT THIS FROM THE HIGHEST HILLTOPS!

From the article...

If the Democratic incumbent wins a runoff election in Louisiana in early December, the new Senate will have 52 Republicans, 47 Democrats and one Independent. That will ensure victory for Mr. Lott -- if he has support from the moderates in his party.

Isn't the current make-up 51-47-1? With a Democratic win bringing it to 51-48-1??

Ok Harry, here ya go:

According to data I collected on the CDC web site, the most recent year complete data was listed was 1997. I will also post numbers from the 48 states that reported in 1998.

1997

1,186,093 LEGAL abortions were performed in the US

This amounts to 306 abortions per 1000 live births

There were slightly more than 3,249 legal abortions PER DAY in the US in 1997.

1998

Only 48 states reported. In these 48 states,

884,273 Legal abortions

264 abortions per 1000 live births

these numbers reflect a slight decline from the 900,171 legal abortions from the same 48 states in 1997.

This decline is relatively consistent with the overall decline in birth rate. This decline was attributed to better contraception.

There was only one specific regarding demographics:

The CDC said that 52 percent of the women who received an abortion in 1997 were 24 or younger. Most of the women were white and unmarried.

The above figures do not include non surgical abortions (chemically induced) which are on the rise. Most states do not report non surgical abortions.

Is this what you were looking for?

Bwahahaha!!! Independence of the Jim Jeffords sort huh? After having been repudiated by the voters, Tommy Daschund and the Democrats want to steal, by hook or crook, control of the Senate back. They realize if they can't get the GOP moderates to switch, the liberals' long reign in Washington is over for good.

These people need to get real - why on earth would anyone want to switch to the LOSERS?? Of course, if they all switch, they would be the winners again - but ... what will they win - another 2 years of Daschle ruled by Hitlery which gets nothing done. Next election in 2004, the majority will go back to the repubs again - what pray tell are they all going to do then?? I've heard Jeffords wants to switch back - just because the repubs are in power.

Incredible - pathetic!

Yeah, "Hey Jim, welcome back to the 'Vast Right Wing Conspiracy'! "Now we can be one big, happy, family again!" "Hey Jim, why is your face looking pale?"

I say we do a prisoner exchange. We'll trade Specter, Chafee, and Snowe for Miller, Nelson, and Breaux.

"Hey Jim, why is your face looking pale?"

LOL!

If we lived in a perfectly just world, Trent Lott would say, "Jim, you know I'd be delighted to have you back in the fold, but your consituents are gonna start looking at you funny if you switch again before your term is up. So, here's what I suggest -- to shore up voter confidence in Vermont and silence all the doubting Thomases I gotta contend with in the Republican caucus, you just stay right where ya are till November 1, 2006, voting exactly the way David Keene tells you to and never missing a vote on anything. If you do that, we'll talk about you coming back. No promises here, just saying we'll talk about it."

But we don't live in a just or perfect world, so Trent Lott will be Trent Lott and take Jeffords back as though nothing ever happened.

Hillariously, I saw this Tom Paine advert today on the inside cover of "The Weekly Standard" (12/02/2002)! Is their a supposition that Senators Snowe or Chafee read this publication? If they do, then the odds are even greater that they wouldn't switch! They also included Sen. Specter as well but I think that they only did because 3 switches would protect them from a Louisianna switch! I'm so glad they're wasting their money, maybe they should also advertise on National Review and NewsMax as well.

OKAY....we'll trade you Snow, Collins and Chafee for Breaux, Miller and a yet to be un-named Senator.

Just make sure they switch to R's before the RINO's switch to D's
