Every law school should offer a course in legal ethics called "How Lawyers Abuse the Law." The first case study would be asbestos litigation, which shows how the thirst for profits has led a small group of trial lawyers to erode the rights of legitimate victims while driving dozens of companies into bankruptcy and -- worst of all -- corrupting the court system. If Congress does not fix this problem, shame on it....

Congress is nothing but a dog-pack of lawyers. Why would they WANT to fix anything?

We need to remember the criticism of VP Cheney that he was stupid and incompetent when Haliburton acquired a Company that later was "shown" to have asbestos liability. Why don't reporters examine the whole story before shooting from the hip! It should be a requirement for reporters to do a Lexis Nexis search BEFORE reporting.

In 1949-1950 my Dad bought a new boat.
It had a kerosene stove.
There was a sheet of asbestos 2 feet by 2 feet to protect the woodwork above the stove.
At that time, *1949-1950*, my Dad told me to stay away from that asbestos sheet and not to play with it because it could make me sick.
Now in 1990-2002, its news?
"You didn't warn us?"
Give me a break.
My Dad was just a layman but he knew about it in 1949-1950.

They do, but it's called Professional Responsibility and it tends to be mandatory. More and more states are requiring that a 3 hour exam in it be passed after law school, separately from the 2 or 3 day (depending upon the state) bar exam. Lawyers get disbarred practically every day, including our most recent president, as well as the next to last attorney president before him (Nixon).

They do. It is taught in the first year, and curiously enough, is called "Legal Ethics". It teaches, among other things that "Barratry", i.e. suit on false premises to mulct the defendant for money under false pretence, is to be avoided.
Anno Domine, it is only honored in the breach in these degenerate days.
