X-rays reveal merger of black holes
Image: NGC 6240   Scientists say Chandra
provides first evidence
that two such mysteries
can coexist in one galaxy
The Chandra image of NGC 6240, a butterfly-shaped galaxy that is the product of the collision of two smaller galaxies, revealed that the central region of the galaxy (inset) contains not one, but two active giant black holes.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 —  In a very bright galaxy 400 million light-years away, two black holes are drifting toward each other and in millions of years will merge with an eruption of energy and a burst of gravitational waves that could warp the very fabric of space, astronomers said Tuesday.

Alternate explanation: one galaxy is younger and has been ejected from another galaxy.

They should be able to look at the spectrum of energy from each black hole accretion disk and tell what direction they are moving in. Whouldn't wnt to be in the neigbhorhood when these 2 bad boys collide.

You'll excuse me if I don't sit around and wait for the big event.

There are a lot of things people should be able to do but don't because their operating theory precludes them from doing so. There's overwhelming evidence that high redshift quasars are ejected from active low redshift Seyfert galaxies. However, prior commitment to redshift as pretty much exclusively the product of recessional velocity keeps actual observations to the contrary (entrained material between the high redshift object and low redshift origin, clustering of quasars around particular types of galaxies, alignment of quasar pairs across certain types of galaxies, predictable quantization of redshift of quasars bracketing certain types of galaxies, redshift decreasing with increasing distance from the galaxy of origin) from being seen.

Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!

Lets see...400 million miles away, millions of years...

That means it could be happening RIGHTNOW!!!

When I saw the words "black hole" and "Chandra" in the headline, I assumed this was an update on the Gary Condit investigation.

Already, Dems are demanding to know what President Bush knew, and when he knew it.

Does the resulting warping of gravity travel at some speed (like the speed of light), or does it occur simultaneously throughout the universe?

So did I
So what do you get when they collide? A blacker hole?

You get Al Sharpton. The blackest ---hole known to man.

Two supermassive black holes, each with the mass of at least a million suns, have been found circling each other in a single butterfly-shaped galaxy, astronomers reported on November 19, 2002. This is the first time scientists have gotten proof that two of these giants can exist in the same galaxy, using data gathered by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. Image on the left shows the galaxy NGC 6240 in optical wavelengths taken by the Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope. The Chandra image on the right covers the same field of view of the galaxy's central region. The colors in the X-ray image show the intensity of the low (red), medium (green) and high (blue) energy X-rays. For the first time, Chandra has clearly revealed two supermassive black holes in the core of the galaxy. Photo by Reuters (Handout)

No one has proven Black Holes exists. Presumes a lot to saying these are black holes.
I my self do not believe in them as told to us.

You'll have to ask someone with much better math skills than I, but I don't think anyone has been able to measure the speed of gravity...
