A knife-wielding teenager who took 20 children hostage at his former school near Barcelona was stopped when a police officer disguised as a pizza delivery man overpowered him. The 17-year-old kidnapper had demanded a 1m euro ransom after bursting in to his old school and taking the children, aged between eight and ten, captive.

Police said they tempted the 17-year-old kidnapper with the offer of a pizza and the undercover agent had been able to arrest him and free the remaining hostages, ending their four-hour ordeal.
