Libertarians regularly assert that our society has no rights.
that all men are equal before the law
Nothing particularly Libertarian about that.
that the law must be based upon written standards and not upon judicial fiat
Backwards. They're constantly whining for the courts to engage in judicial legislation, ignore written law and invent rights for them. Usually "rights" to pornography and dope.
that the government must not arbitrarily take powers not granted to it
Nothing particularly Libertarian about that.
These are questions that should be answered before going off half cocked. Otherwise, I wouldn't be totaly against taking over some place like Costa Rica or Belize like we did in the good ole days and civilize them with the Bible and the Constitution.
"...Libertarians regularly assert that our society has no rights..."
Well, that's true, Roscoe. Society has no rights.
Words mean things, Roscoe. When Clinton was in power, that was a buzzword here at FreeRepublic.
I know it's a small detail to you, but only men have God-given rights. Rights are by definition something that men have as a result of being men.
Society may be made up of men, but it's NOT a man. Society doesn't have rights, unions don't have rights, governments don't have rights; in short, only individuals have rights.
(libertarian belief) that all men are equal before the law:...Nothing particularly Libertarian about that..."
Really? American colonists were Englishmen, and as we all know, there was a big difference in the treatment of a commoner and a member of the Peerage when going before a judge.
Neither England nor any other nation on Earth at the time had a system of law where all men were expected to be treated equally under the law.

You must be talking about un-Constitutional laws that violate God-given rights.
That's not "whining," Roscoe. That's asking the courts to rule on the Constitutionality of certain laws, something that our present court system refuses to do.
Apparently, the only way a citizen can challenge the Constitutionality of a law is in the Supreme Court, and the only way to get to the Supreme Court is through the lower courts, which refuse to hear Constitutional questions because Constitutional questions are only heard in the Supreme Court.
