Prince Rainier hospitalized in Monaco

MONACO, Nov. 17 (AFP) - prince Rainier of Monaco, 79 years, was hospitalized Saturday evening for a "bronchopulmonary superinfection" in the cardio-thoracic center of Monaco, one learned Sunday from official source.

The prince had undergone several operations in December 1999 for a dilation anévrysmale of the abdominal aorta, with installation of a endoprothèse (bridging), followed two months later of an ablation partial of the lung to control a nodule (tumour).

After these two successive interventions, Rainier delegated the official voyages abroad to the hereditary prince, Albert.

Prince Rainier of Monaco had also been hospitalized on last 14 May in the cardio-thoracic center of Monaco following a state of "general tiredness", before regaining the Palate later six days.

According to its doctors treating, it was a succession of bronchitides which had generated the state of tiredness of the sovereign Monegasque.

Prince Rainier directs the principality since November 19, 1949, date on which it had succeeded his grandfather, the Prince Louis II, deceased.

Since his advent, the prince is the craftsman stubborn person of the development of the Principality, transforming into one half-century what was a family company devoted to the games of chance in a money market and economic safe from a reverse of fortune.
