Tanker explodes off China

Reports from Beijing say that one oil tanker exploded and another was heavily damaged in a fire in southern China. Details are sketchy but reports say that the blaze occurred near an oil depot in Qingliu, a village in the southern province of Guangdong, near Hong Kong.

Local reports say that more than 50 fire engines, five firefighting boats and two helicopters assisted in tackling the blaze.

Three people were reported injured.

The tanker which exploded was carrying more than 100 tons of oil.

It ignited more than 400 tons of diesel oil.

There is no indication how much sea water was polluted.

A bit more...

Tankers explode in southern China; three slightly injured

BEIJING (AP) - An oil tanker exploded and another was heavily damaged in a blaze in southern China, officials and state media said Sunday.

The explosion, near an oil depot in Qingliu, a village in the southern province of Guangdong near Hong Kong, was completely extinguished at 6 p.m. Saturday, 18 hours after the blast took place, according to a duty officer at the Guangzhou provincial government office. He gave only his surname, Wang.

The cause of the blast was still under investigation.

He said three people were injured but were released from the hospital Sunday. He couldn't say how much water in the area had been polluted. More than 50 fire trucks, five firefighting boats and two helicopters assisted in putting out the fire, state media said.

The tanker was carrying more than 100 tons of oil when it exploded, state newspapers said. They said more than 400 tons of diesel oil ignited, and two tankers were heavily damaged.

The tankers belonged to Panlong Petrochemical Co., where staffers refused Sunday to comment. Various municipal government authorities in the area didn't answer their telephones Sunday.- AP

I have a sneaking suspicion we may never hear about the cause of this one.

"I have a sneaking suspicion we may never hear about the cause of this one."

I agree. This is probably all that we'll ever see about this.

Carrying 100 tons of oil? So this is likely some little river or coastal freighter then.

If we do, they'll probably blame it on Falun Gong.

I'm shocked! We all know the deep love for mother earth which is manifest in Socialist societies. This can not happen in China!

Remember the Islamic Movement of East Turkestan (the Chinese al-Qaeda) that the US added to the terrorist list a few weeks back? This could easily be them, as they've carried out suicide attacks before.

Five members of the Oregon Cell went to China beginning in October of 2001 enroute to Afghanistan.

It was about this same time that Muhammed and Malvo took up residency at the shelter.

Things to ponder: April 23, 2001.

John Williams changed his surname to Muhammed AND the first pair of hijackers entered the United States.

"The explosion,...was completely extinguished at 6 p.m. Saturday, 18 hours after the blast took place."

And of course the American media ruled out terrorism long before the flames were out, al la AA587 & TWA800, among other events. However, rest assured that if Beijing learns it was mu-slime terrorists, they won't worry about the feelings of Arabs when pay-back time comes. This is Hu Jintou's (sp?) first test as a new leader.

Yes. Oooo, I would not want to be on the receiving end of a PLA blitzkrieg, armed only with a Kalishnikov and a couple grenades, inside of China's own borders. They may not be any match for the U.S., India or even Taiwan, yet, but in their own country, they're the baddest mother----ers around. They, uh, won't be giving a damn about offending Islamic sensitivities, and I'd expect their Muslim population will drop to essentially zero, in a matter of hours. Which is why the jihadists tend to leave them the hell alone.

What little you know about the Chinese communists.

They go to great pains to ally themselves and be friendly with Iran, Iraq and even the Taliban before 911. And the Sudan especially.

They sell weapons, missiles, nuke know-how and equipment, fiber optic networks that can be used as air defense as well (this to Iraq and the Taliban to name two).

The lives or property of the Chinese people are not of major importance to the communist rulers. Threat to their rule is what matters and a fire on an oiler tanker isn't that(no matter who did it, if it were terrorism).

All they gotta do is switch to Islam and peace shall prevail. Are the Muslim terrorists so convinced of their insane pursuit of raping the world that they believe that All ah, can give them victory over everyone else? Hope they enjoy pain.
