Why do Fighter Jets continue non-stop flights over the area while President Bush is at Camp David?

I'm trying to understand the purpose of these F15s keeping a constant air presence over the Camp David area. It's quite obvious when President Bush is staying at Camp David.
What good is a fighter if some terrorist nut is planning an attack on the ground? What, are they going to fire an air-to-ground missile with Thurmont, Smithsburg and hundreds of residents so close to the area?
I just don't understand these non-stop flights over the area.

It has to do with aeredynamics and the desire to fly. It's too complicated to go into at this time.

F15s are cool.

What is to not understand in protecting the Commander-In-Chief? I am sure he is protected by air and ground and underground.

It is only his clone at Camp David and the fighter jets are there for you and you only, try leaving town they will follow you.

I just don't understand these non-stop flights over the area. If your goal was to get 72 virgins by busting into a cockpit of an airliner and taking out another landmark, you might think twice if you thought you might land short.

Silly, simple woodland creature. What you don't see are the snipers and special ops types hidden all around. Don't feel too bad because you are NOT supposed to see them. They are very good at hiding and killing anything that might threaten our President. So next time you look up be careful where you step, they might get mad.

Those aren't jets, those are gnats that have invaded your private space.

Unless you live local to the Camp David area (within 20 miles or so), you wouldn't understand. Those Freepers that do live in and around the area understand what I'm talking about.

It's a long shot, but it my guess.
Shoot down any planes that want to crash into Camp David and kill the President?
It could be they just want to annoy you on purpose.

A fine and valuable instrument must be protected on many fronts ... one being the atmosphere.
Controlled climate and all that.
You know what I mean, don't you?

I just don't understand these non-stop flights over the area. It's easily changed by going through the following steps.
1) Get your degree.
2) Join the Air Force.
3) Work your a$$ off for 25 or 30 years.
4) Rise up through the ranks.
5) Come to the attention of some high politico.
6) Kiss an awful lot of a$$.
7) Arrange to have your a$$ kissed by some important people, preferably in the press or better yet, on TV.
8) Get yourself appointed to the post of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
9) Stop the flights.
10) Then you can listen to posters who think that they know more than you, tell you how to do your job.
Be well...

Its because F-15's aren't all that effective driving around on the ground, silly.

I guess it's just part of the "assignment" to protect the president... they do what ever they think may be necessary. Once, back in 1971 (I think) when we lived in Miami, my husband and I were out for a sail in our tiny high-performance racing boat in Biscayne Bay. This boat could easily achieve what we fondly called a "screamin' plane" on a reach (wind from behind and slightly at right angles to the boat) if the wind was up. Well, we got up on the plane, boat actually lifting out of the water and skimming the surface really fast... a most exhilerating experience to say the least, and I have to admit we were yelling something akin to "yehaaaa" in the excitement. Little did we realize that we were approaching the part of the shore where President Nixon was visiting his good friend Bebe Rebosa. We saw a couple of boats signaling us to turn around, but ignored them thinking they were just trying to ruin our fun and we thought the bay was unrestricted and we were not breaking any laws. We were almost arrested by the secret service who thought we were comin in with a bomb or something. Can't blame them for thinking that, what with all the screaming we were doing.

LOL! Best answer!

Uh, to get to the other side? ;^)

What, are they going to fire an air-to-ground missile with Thurmont, Smithsburg and hundreds of residents so close to the area? I'm sorry to have to break the news to you, but in some imagineable scenarios, the answer is indeed "Yes."
