(vanity) Looking for cheap & reliable domain name registrar
Me

Posted on 11/15/2002 8:51:31 AM PST by martin_fierro

Hi FR techie types;

My domain name is coming up for renewal. It seems like there's a lot more registrar competition out there than two years ago, when I went with Network Solutions.

VeriSign is now offering to renew the registration for the next five years, for a total of $100/$20 per year.

Does anyone have experiences with registrants other than VeriSign that are better/cheaper?

Personally I use GoDaddy.com. It's $8.95 per domain ( a lot cheaper than Verisign) and I've used them for transferring domains from Verisign and they've been great all around.

I've transferred some domains from Network Solutions/Verisign to godaddy.com and have had no problems.

Yeah — get rid of VeriSign/NetSol — they are horrible!

I use OpenSRS for my domains (I have a *bunch*!) and they are a wholesaler and charge $10! So, GoDaddy is a pretty good deal -- don't think that you'll find anything cheaper than that.

I can't speak for their interface though -- I have no idea. VS/NetSol's is horrible. OpenSRS is great!

Go-Daddy is OK, but look at Gandi-net 12 Euros per year and ICANN approved vendor.

You'll probably also need a DNS provider.. check out WorldWideDNS.. $10 per year for one zone.

I just bought myself a domain from godaddy.com and web hosting space from hostway.com and it seems to work ok. The domain was $8.95/yr. and the web space was $14/yr. for 200MB of space, email accounts, and 6GB/mo. of traffic allowance.

I just ordered the domain Friday (yesterday) morning, and ordered the webspace yesterday evening, and it was all working by Saturday evening.

Here's my new website: EmbeddedExcellence.com.

If anyone has any suggestions for what I should do with it, let me know! :-)
