I agree with you, but don't you think that when people cooperate with hostage-takers, robbers and the like it's because they feel, in the end, they will be avoiding death(however wrong they may be) ??

I just believe that death is something that we naturally want to avoid(except Islamokazis) and even irrationally we act in a manner we see as leading to our survival. Meaning that death IS the ultimate price.

I believe most people go around behaving like there is no threat to them in their normal lives. They are caught in a state of complete surprise and have no preparation (read training) to fall back on.

If the robber or attacker is armed the average person, being unarmed, does as told thinking they have no alternative. They become passive and are at the mercy of their attacker mostly because the victim has no mental preparation to fight back with whatever is available.

Those who live in states with CCW (concealed carry) laws are negligent if they aren't armed and trained to respond IMO.
