Attorney John Fuller has said that anyone who is connected with US sniper John Allen Muhammad will not leave the country.
The head of the task force looking into the activities of US Sniper John Allen Muhammad has confirmed that one of Muhammads acquaintances in Antigua, Peter John Gianquinto jr. has been arrested in New York by federal authorities. The FBI is investigating connections between Muhummad and Gianquinto.
According to an article in the Washington Post, Gianquinto left Antigua on 27 May, 2001, four days before Muhammad and John Lee Mavlo. He is now part of the broader inquiry into the sniper suspects.
The Washington Post noted that several parallels between Gianquinto and Muhammad have sparked interest among investigators here and in Antigua.
It further reported that Prime Minister Lester Bird said that Muhammad and Gianquinto were repeatedly seen together in 2001 along with the fact that Muhammad sold fake identification to enable people to enter the United States, and that officials here in Antigua want to know whether Gianquinto is linked to those documents.
According to Fuller, Guinquinto is a petty scam artiste who is well known in Antigua. He has been visiting here for 20 years, and he apparently used false documents to apply for a US passport which he received. Fuller made it clear that Gianquinto never applied for an Antigua passport.
He stated that Gianquinto at different times lived in Cedar Grove, Villa and on Desouza Road. It was apparently while living at DeSouza Road that he came in contact with and developed a friendship with Muhammad. Muhammad lived at Rose Street, Ottos, which is near to Desouza Road.
Records have also been unearthed that Gianquinto checked in and stayed at the Pineapple Beach Hotel in May 2001, the same month Muhammad returned to Antigua under his own name. Immigration records show that Muhammad listed Pineapple Beach Hotel as his address on his immigration form, but officials are not too sure whether or not he checked in at the resort.
Investigations also confirm that Gianquinto committed a few scams here in Antigua he didnt pay bills, and issued bounce checks. He had a habit of saying that he was a resident of Mill Reef and had $50 million.
The task force is trying to track down people who were seen in the company of Muhammad while he was in Antigua.
Fuller said the task force had received a number of leads on John Edwards who was issued an Antigua passport. But we suspect that he was taken into custody in the United States on false documents and went off the radar screen.
We also have a strong suspicion that he spent time in jail here but we cant find any records because we are not sure under which name he entered prison.
Fuller made it clear that anyone whom the task force suspects might be in collaboration with Muhammad or whom we suspect of any criminal offence with Muhammad will not be allowed to leave the Island lawfully.
Muhammad and Malvo are suspects in sniper attacks and in seven other shootings in Maryland, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Washington State Fourteen of which were fatal.
But, since this is Antigua, if you have the money, you can leave unlawfully (or at least while the law turns its back to count the money).
