If anyone needs further explanation on why exposing a "harmless" fraud like John Edward is important, please remember that his crowd-manipulation/cold reading technique is hardly restricted to "spirit mediums" or con-men adopting a religious guise. Certain politicians do it too, and it is critical to catch them when they try. A couple years ago we had a fascinating thread discussing The Sinkmaster's "Q&A" with Pastor Hybels before 4,000 ministers, held at the Willow Creek church, and how it had all the hallmarks of an Uri Geller/John Edward fraud:
